No. 13 Boston College Knocks off No. 12 CSU-Chico 14-12 OT in 11th Place Game at Women's National Collegiate Club Championship
GRESHAM, Ore. -- Torie Pascoe (So., Tacoma, Wash.) scored six goals to earn Player of the Game honors as No. 13 ranked Boston College upset No. 12 California State University-Chico 14-12 in overtime in the 11th place and final game of the 2008 National Collegiate Club Championship.
The game was the story of runs as the Eagles rolled out to a 6-3 lead with 2:32 left in the second period and was in front 11-6 at the end of the third period, but CSU-Chico used a 5-0 spurt in the final quarter to tie the game up and force overtime.
Trailing by five with seven minutes to play, the Wildcats went to work in erasing the deficit.
Corina Berrios (Fr., Sacramento, Calif.) started the comeback with 5:58 to play with a marker before Stephanie Wells (Jr., San Jose, Calif.) chipped in a goal at the 4:58 mark to cut the lead down to 11-8. Wells scored again on an exclusion opportunity at 3:20 and Heather Hibbs (Jr., San Mateo, Calif.) did the rest pounding in scores at 2:47 and 2:12 to equal the sides of the scoreboard and force overtime.
However, BC took command of the game in the extra two three-minute periods as Pascoe netted the game-winner 26 seconds into the first OT period and Claire Telleen (Sr., San Mateo, Calif.) tacked on a penalty shot at 1:51 to give the Eagles a 13-11 lead.
Pascoe struck again with 2:44 left in the second OT period tallying her sixth goal on an exclusion chance to seal the win for Boston College as the Eagles went in front 14-11.
Chico attempted to comeback, but could manage only one score as Wells added her team best fourth goal of the game for the 14-12 final.
In goal, BC's Lia Breuning (Fr., Walnut Creek, Calif.) and CSU-Chico's Amy Crawford (Fr., Sacramento, Calif.) both made eight saves.
