USC, Navy, Redlands and Michigan State Remain #1 in September 12 National Varsity, CWPA, Division III and Collegiate Club Men's Water Polo Polls
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The United States Naval Academy, University of Redlands, the University of Southern California and Michigan State University retained their top spots after the first week of play as the September 12 Collegiate Water Polo Association Top 10, Division III Top 10, National Collegiate Varsity Top 20 and National Collegiate Club Men's Water Polo polls were released to the media.
In the CWPA poll, the United States Naval Academy remained a unanimous pick as the top team in the league as the Midshipmen earned 100 points. St. Francis College stayed second with 94 points, while Bucknell University and Princeton University held strong at their third and fourth place positions with 91 and 85 points, respectively. Johns Hopkins University stayed at fifth position with 77 points, while George Washington University moved up from ninth place to tie with Brown University at the sixth position as both teams garnered 72 points. Fordham University and Harvard University fell back a spot as the Rams and the Crimson slipped to eighth and ninth. Iona College moved into the Top 10 this week displacing Mercyhurst College which fell out of rankings.

The University of Redlands retained unanimous possession of first place in the Division III poll garnering 100 points. Johns Hopkins University, which was tied with Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, for second place last week edged ahead in the balloting to take over sole possession of the second spot with 94 points, while Pomona-Pitzer slipped to third with 91 points. The top five of the poll saw dramatic changes as California Lutheran University and Claremont Mudd Scripps Colleges jumped up to fourth and fifth, respectively, in the poll after ranking fifth and sixth last week, while the University of California-Santa Cruz fell two spots to sixth after ranking fourth seven days back. Chapman College remained seventh, but the Massachusetts Institute of Technology was the biggest gainer of the week moving up to eighth place after receiving votes in the Septemberr 5 poll. Occidental College remained ninth and the University of LaVerne slipped to 10th to round out the Top 10.

The Varsity Top 20 poll saw the race for the #1 spot remain neck-and-neck as the University of Southern California retained the nation's top ranking with 99 points, but the University of California-Berkeley hold onto the #2 spot with 97 points for a second week in a row. Overall, the top five teams in the nation remained unchanged for the third week in a row as the University of California-Los Angeles (89), Stanford University (85) and the University of California-Irvine (80) held onto their spots.
The bottom five of the Top 10 saw minor changes as Pepperdine University moved up one spot to sixth and the University of California-Santa Barbara slipped back a spot to seventh, while the University of California-Davis, Long Beach State University and the United States Naval Academy held onto the eighth through 10th spots, respectively.
