UCLA Remains No. 1 in March 25 Women's National Collegiate Club Top 20 Poll
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. --The University of California-Los Angeles remains No. 1 among the club programs as the Bruins maintained their position as the top program for a second week in the March 25 Women's National Collegiate Club Poll released today by the Collegiate Water Polo Association league office.
UCLA, which took over the sole possession of the top spot last week after previously sharing the No. 1 ranking with the University of Oregon in the March 4 poll, earned 98 points and all but one first place vote to lead the nation.
2008 National Collegiate Club champion California Polytechnic State University, which held the No. 1 ranking from the end of the 2008 season through the February 25, 2009 poll, remains at No. 2 for another week after ranking fourth in the March 4 poll.
Overall, the top five positions in the poll remain unchanged as the University of Notre Dame, University of Florida and University of California-Davis held firm at No. 3 through 5, respectively.
Two changes occurred in the Top 10 this week as the University of Michigan climbed one place to No. 6, while the University of Oregon slipped back to No. 7. Michigan State University and Grand Valley State University held their positions at No. 8 and 9, while the University of Illinois became the third Big 10 team in the Top 10 as the Illini moved up from No. 11 to No. 10.
In the next 10, University of Utah fell one spot to No. 11 with Miami University (Ohio), University of Arizona and University of Pennsylvania staying at No. 12 through 14 from last week.
University of Texas and University of California-San Diego traded positions with the Longhorns climbing to No. 15, Boston College and California State University-Chico remain locked into No. 17 and 19, New York University rocketed up the charts to No. 18 and Dartmouth College dropped to No. 20 to round out the Top 20.
Texas A&M University and Boston University also received votes this week.
