BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The 20th-ranked Princeton University women's water polo team topped 17th-ranked Brown University 7-5 in the consolation bracket of the Elite Eight Tournament at Indiana University. The victory avenges a 10-9 Bears' win in the 2010 Eastern College Athletic Conference title game a week ago at Princeton.
Princeton went ahead with a four-goal first quarter and maintained its gap through the remaining 24 minutes in the two-goal win. Princeton lead 4-1 after a quarter as both teams were kept in check for the remainder of the first half for the same lead at halftime.
Lauren Brunner scored two goals to lead the Tigers and five others added single markers as the Tigers potentially improved their position in the national polls for this upcoming week. Kristen Ward made six saves for the win.
Princeton is now 7-3 overall and has taken two of three meetings from Brown in an ongoing series of seventh-day battles. Over the past three weeks, the teams have played each other on Sunday with the Tigers holding a 2-1 advantage in the series to date thanks to a 13-11 win at the Princeton Invitational on February 21.
