Grove City's Amanda Thompson Named April 26 Women's Varsity Division III Defensive Player of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Grove City College's Amanda Thompson (Sr., Erie, Pa./McDowell) collected nine goals, two assists and 10 steals to earn the April 26 Women's Varsity Division III Defensive Player of the Week award for leading the Wolverines to the 2010 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Championship at Utica College.
The tournament Most Valuable Player and an All-Tournament first team selection, she contributed six goals in a 16-6 victory over Chatham University in the opening round, before posting a pair of markers in an 8-6 second round win over Washington & Jefferson College. Thompson wrapped up the weekend with a goal and several key defensive field blocks in a come-from-behind 8-7 defeat of Carthage College in the Division III title game.
