Australia Nearly Knox Off USA at 2010 FINA World League Super Final

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. --Former Hartwick College All-America selection and Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) standout Bronwen Knox recorded a fourth-period hat-trick as Team Australia nearly upset Team USA at the 2010 FINA World League Super Final in La Jolla, Calif. on Tuesday, June 29.  The loss drops Australia to 1-1 at the tournament, while the US improves to 2-0.

The goals raise Knox's output in a 12-8 victory over the Russian National Team and a 14-13 shootout loss to the Americans to five goals.

Trailing 10-9 with 2:49 left in the fourth period, the Aussies knotted the game with 2:24 showing on the clock as Knox connected on her first successful shot.  She pumped in a man-up tally with 1:47 showing on the clock to put her team ahead, before striking again with 19 seconds left in the contest to make it 12-11.  However, the US received a marker with 10 seconds left on the clock to knot the game before claiming victory with a 3-2 advantage in a shootout.

Knox marked the only CWPA alum to appear in the game as Hall of Fame inductee/University of Michigan alum Betsey Armstrong of the United States of America National Team did not appear in the game.
