Collegiate Water Polo Association Releases 2012 Men's Collegiate Club Northwest Division Schedule
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the 2012 Men's National Collegiate Club Northwest Division schedule.
The division is comprised of Central Washington University, Oregon State University, Portland State University, Seattle University, University of Oregon and the University of Washington as the Northwest Division programs will contest 24 regular season games and 11 championship contests.
The competition slate features a pair of regular season tournaments to set the field for the division championship tournament on Saturday-Sunday, October 27-28 at the Osborn Aquatic Center in Corvallis, Ore. with a berth to the National Collegiate Club Championship back at the Osborn Aquatic Center on the line.
Regular season play will commence on Saturday-Sunday, September 29-30 as the teams will converage on the Amazon Aquatic Center in Eugene, Ore. for a 12-game tournament. Following two weeks off, the squads will trek to Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Wash. on Saturday-Sunday, October 13-14 for another 12-game tournament to conclude regular season play and bring on the postseason.
In the history of the division, Oregon and Washington have been the predominant powers combining to capture 13 of the 14 previously contested championships. However, history could be changed this year as seven-time champion Washington (2009, 2006, 2002, 2001, 2000, 1999, 1998) and six-time titleist Oregon (2011, 2010, 2008, 2007, 2005, 2004) may face a challenge from 2003 champion and 2012 National Collegiate Club Championship host Oregon State.
It is notable that two Northwest Division squads will advance to the National Collegiate Club Championship in 2012 with Oregon State the lone team guaranteed a spot in the field due to hosting the championship. If Oregon State claims the Northwest Division crown, the Beavers will take the division's slotted position in the field with the division runner-up taking OSU's preordained position at No. 16 as the host institution.
