No. 1 University of California-Davis-vs.-No. 4 Grand Valley State University Scoresheet

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- No. 1-ranked/Sierra Pacific Division Champion the University of California-Davis received hat-tricks from Sydney Preston (Fr., Huntington Beach, Calif.) and Lauren Lesyna (Sr., Palo Alto, Calif.) as the duo shared Player of the Game honors for powering the Aggies to a 12-2 defeat of No. 4/Midwest Division Champion Grand Valley State University in the quarterfinals of the 2017 Women's National Collegiate Club Championship at the University of Pittsburgh's Joe C. Trees Pool.

The win advances the Aggies into the tournament semifinals where UC-Davis will face No. 6/Big Ten Division Champion The Ohio State University at 7:30 p.m. later today for a spot in the 2017 Women's National Collegiate Club Championship title game.  The 2012 and 2013 National Champion, UC-Davis is now guaranteed to record the program's seventh Top Four finish after previously collecting First (2012, 2013), Second (2011), Third (2008, 2014, 2016) and Fifth (2009) Place marks.

The game belonged to the Aggies from the opening sprint until the final horn as UC-Davis opened up a 5-1 lead by the conclusion of the first quarter, enlarged the margin to 8-1 and 11-2 by the end of the second and third quarters prior to tacking on one final blow in the fourth quarter to capture a 10-goal margin of victory.

A total of five players found the back of the cage for UC-Davis in the contest as Michaela Tillinghast (Sr., Clovis, Calif.) finessed in a pair of strikes with Dallyce Marglon (Jr., Tracy, Calif.) and Sofia Caryotakis (Jr., Portola Valley, Calif.) depositing solo markers.

In cage, Kelley Cartwright (Jr., San Diego, Calif.) and Cassidy Crouch (Fr., Clovis, Calif.) combined for nine saves with Cartwright earning the victory as the goalie of record.

On the other end of the tank, Murielle Garbarino (Fr., Grand Haven, Mich.) racked up goals in the first and third quarters to comprise the entirety of the Lakers' offensive attack.  Hannah Heemstra (Jr., Zeeland, Mich.) took the loss with 11 saves.

The loss terminates GVSU's National Championship hopes as the team will face No. 7/Northwest Division Champion the University of Washington at 5:10 p.m. for a chance to make the tournament's Fifth Place game.  If the Lakers can down the Huskies and return to the Fifth Place game, the team will guarantee itself an opportunity to a least tie its all-time best mark at the Women's National Collegiate Club Championship.

A three-time participant, GVSU finished in 11th place at the 2010 tournament hosted by the University of Arizona prior to notching a Sixth Place finish at the 2016 event hosted by the University of California-Santa Cruz.
