Washington & Jefferson Falls to Gannon 13-7 to Place Eighth at Southern Division Championship
ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Washington & Jefferson College men’s water polo team placed eighth of 10 teams this weekend at the 2010 Southern Division Championship hosted by the United States Naval Academy.
The Presidents’ season ends with a 6-18 record. On Sunday, W&J dropped a 13-7 decision to Gannon University in the seventh-place match.
Senior Bill Krause (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) led the Presidents with three goals, while sophomore Cameron Chaves (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) added a pair. Junior Andy Rish (North East, Pa./Cathedral Prep) and sophomore Mike Johnson (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) both collected one goal.
In the goal, freshman Carlos Padron (Miami, Fla./Belen Jesuit) compiled eight saves in 20 minutes of action.
On Saturday, W&J dropped a 22-4 decision to top-ranked Navy and also suffered a 16-11 setback to Mercyhurst.
In the loss to Navy, Chaves (2), Rish and freshman Brendan Lesniak (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Barrington) all scored goals. Freshman Dan Francisco (Chicago, Ill./Fenwick) stopped four shots, while Padron had three saves.
Rish pumped in four goals in the loss to the Lakers, while Krause finished with a hat trick. Johnson (2), Chaves and senior Nathan Steiner (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way Central) all added goals. Francisco finished with four saves.
