CWPA Releases Week 9/March 21 Women's Varsity Polls

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The University of California-Los Angeles, Grove City College and Occidental College hold onto their No. 1 rankings in the National Top 20, Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III and National Top 10 Division III weekly polls, while the University of Michigan jumps to No. 1 in the CWPA Division I/II rankings.

Voted on by a panel of coaches from the Collegiate Water Polo Association, Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), Big West Conference, Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the polls are compiled and released on each Wednesday during the season through the week following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.

 

 

 

2012 Women's Varsity National Top 20

The University of California-Los Angeles remains on top of the 2012 Women's Varsity Week 9/March 21 National Top 20 Poll.

UCLA (99 points), which took over the top spot three weeks ago, leads a Top 10 which experienced minor changes.

Stanford University (96 points), the University of Southern California (90 points), Arizona State  University (84 points), University of California (81 points) and University of California-Irvine (76 points) remain at No. 2-to-6, respectively.  The first change from the previous week poll comes a No. 7 as Loyola Marymount University (69 points), which was tied with UC-Irvine at No. 6 in the March 14 rankings, drops to No. 7.

San Diego State University (66 points) and San Jose State University (56 points) hold at No. 8 and 9, while the University of Michigan (50 points) improves two spots to No. 10.

The University of California-Davis (48 points) begins the next 10 positions as the Aggies improve four spots to take over at No. 11. Princeton University (42 points) experienced the largest gain by rising six spots to No. 12, while the University of Maryland (38 points) falls out of the Top 10 to No. 13.

The University of California-Santa Barbara (30 points), Indiana University (29 points) and Hartwick College (25 points) stand at No. 14-to-16, with the University of Hawaii (21 points), California State University-Northridge (21 points), the University of California-San Diego (15 points) and newcomer Wagner College (8 points) rounding out the Top 20 poll by ranking at No. 17-to-20.

2012 Women's Varsity Division III Top 10

The Women's Varsity Division III Week 9/March 21 Top 10 poll experienced radical changes, but Occidental College (99 points) continues to hold a lock on the No. 1 spot among small colleges.

Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (92 points) holds at No. 2 for another week, with California Lutheran University (89 points) and the  University of Redlands (88 points) exchanging positions at No. 3 and 4.

Whittier College (77 points) improves two places to No. 5, with Chapman University (75 points) staying at No. 6.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (74 points), University of La Verne (66 points), Grove City College (60 points) and newcomer Washington & Jefferson College (11 points) complete the Top 10.

2012 Women's CWPA Division I/II Top 10

The University of Michigan (96 points) climbed four places to take over the No. 1 position in the Week 9/March 21 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division I/II Top 10 Poll.

The Wolverines, who were ranked in fifth place last week, edge out runner-up and previously No. 1-ranked the University of Maryland (95 points) by a single point.

The movement of Michigan caused the No. 1-4 positions to shift down as Princeton University (92 points), Indiana University (87 points) and Hartwick College (79 points) all move one spot to rank at No. 3-to-5, respectively.

Harvard University (74 points) moves ahead of Brown University (72 points) to take over at No. 6, while Bucknell University (65 points), George Washington University (60 points) and Mercyhurst University (55 points) complete the Top 10.

2012 Women's CWPA Division III Top 5

Grove City College remains a unanimous selection as the No. 1 team in the Week 9/March 21 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Top Five Poll for the 10th consecutive week dating back to the preseason balloting.

Only three teams held their positions from the March 14 poll as Wheaton College (90 points) holds at No. 3, while Washington & Jefferson College (95 points) jumps two places to take over at No. 2.

Macalester College (84 points) remains at No. 4 for another week, while Carthage College (64 points) drops three places to hold the fifth and final berth in the league's Division III rankings.
