BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- St. Francis College goalie Igor Mladenovic (So., Belgrade, Serbia/Sportska Gimnazija) made 32 saves to lead the No. 20-ranked Terriers to the Northern Division Championship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and claim the November 7 Men's Varsity Northern Division Defensive Player of the Week award.
Facing Iona College in the second round following a bye, Mladenovic posted 13 saves with two goals allowed in three quarters of work in aiding the Terriers to a 13-3 victory. He followed up his performance versus the Gaels' with arguably his best performance of the season in recording 19 saves in an 11-10 three sudden death overtime win against No. 17-ranked Brown University in the division title game.
The award marks his second Defensive Player of the Week nod this season as Mladenovic previously claimed September 26 honors. Further, it marks the fourth award in his collegiate career as he picked up the Northern Division's September 20 Rookie of the Week and Octotber 4 Defensive Player of the Week awards during the 2010 season.
St. Francis will continue the season on November 18-20 at the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Eastern Championship at Harvard University's Blodgett Pool. The defending Eastern Champions, St. Francis will seek to become the first program since the 2006-08 Midshipmen of the United States Naval Academy to capture two or more consecutive Eastern crowns.
