CWPA Releases 2011 Men's Varsity Week 11 Polls; UCLA, USC, Pomona-Pitzer & Navy Top the Rankings
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The University of California-Los Angeles and University of Southern California, Pomona-Pitzer Colleges and the United States Naval Academy top the national rankings as the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) released the 2011 Men's Varsity Week 11/November 16 National Top 20, Division III Top 10 and CWPA Top 10 Polls.
Voted on by a panel of coaches from the CWPA, Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the polls are compiled and released on Wednesday during each week of the season through the week following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.
2011 Men's Varsity National Top 20
The No. 1 team in the nation is plural for a second week as the
University of Southern California and the
University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA) remain
tied with 97 points for the top spot in the Week 11/November 16
Men's Varsity National Top 20 poll.
Last week the duo of Southern California schools became the first programs to tie for the No. 1 spot in the poll since they last did it on December 2, 2009.
The remainder of the Top 10 continues relatively unchanged as the University of California-Berkeley (91 points) and Stanford University (86 points) hold at No. 3 and 4, respectively. The University of California-Santa Barbara (76 points) rises one spot to take over sole possession of No. 5 after tying with the University of California-Irvine (73 points) last week. UCI drops back to No. 6, with University of the Pacific (71 points), Long Beach State University (66 points), Pepperdine University (63 points) and Loyola Marymount University (55 points) rounding out the top half of the rankings.
Positions No. 11-14 also remain consistent as the University of California-San Diego (51 points), University of California-Davis (45 points), Concordia University (38 points) and Santa Clara University (33 points) hold on for another week.
Entering the Collegiate Water Polo Association's (CWPA) Eastern Championship this weekend, the pollsters elected to make a change at No. 15 as the United States Naval Academy (28 points) edges out St. Francis College (26 points) at No. 15. SFC, which was ranked at No. 15 last week, falls back to No. 16 with California Baptist University (19 points) taking over at No. 17.
Brown University (15 points) slips to No. 18, with Princeton University (11 points) and the United States Air Force Academy (7 points) completing the poll.

2011 Men's Varsity Division III Top 10
In the wake of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference (SCIAC) Championship, the Division III Poll has a new
No. 1 team as Pomona-Pitzer Colleges picked up 100
points to rate as the unanimous top selection in the Week
11/November 16 Men's Varsity Division III National Top 10 poll.
It marks a meteoric three place rise by the Sagehens in two weeks as Pomona-Pitzer climbed from No. 4 in the November 2 poll to the top spot this week.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (93 points), which was ranked No. 1 last week, drops to No. 2, with the University of Redlands (89 points) and California Lutheran University (83 points) remaining in the Top Five at No. 3 and 4, respectively.
Johns Hopkins University (81 points), Chapman University (76 points), Whittier College (69 points), the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (69 points), University of La Verne (60 points) and Occidental College (57 points) complete the Top 10.

Southern Division champion the United States Naval
Academy garnered 95 points to edge out former No. 1
ranked and Northern Division champion St. Francis
College (93 points) in the Week 11/November 16 Men's
Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Top 10.
The rankings from No. 1-to-10 are unchanged from last week due to no CWPA teams competing last week.
Brown University (91 points), Princeton University (87 points) and Bucknell University (81 points) round out the Top Five as the Southern Division has three teams rated among the league's best.
Johns Hopkins University (74 points) begins the final five spots in the poll, with Iona College (72 points), Harvard University (63 points), the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (47 points) and George Washington University (37 points) completing the Top 10.
