CWPA Releases 2011 Men's Varsity Week 12 Polls; USC, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps & Princeton Top the Rankings
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The University of Southern California, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges and Princeton University top the national rankings as the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) released the 2011 Men's Varsity Week 12/November 23 National Top 20, Division III Top 10 and CWPA Top 10 Polls.
Voted on by a panel of coaches from the CWPA, Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the polls are compiled and released on Wednesday during each week of the season through the week following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.
2011 Men's Varsity National Top 20
The University of Southern California handled
former Co-No. 1 the University of California-Los
Angeles (UCLA) last week in head-to-head action 9-6 to
take over sole possession of the top-ranking and stand as a
unanimous No. 1 pick in the Week 12/November 23 Men's Varsity
National Top 20 poll.
USC, which will enter the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation with the No. 1 ranking, could be challenged by a slew of Top 10 programs as UCLA (94 points), the University of California-Berkeley (91 points), Stanford University (86 points) and the University of the Pacific (74 points) round out the Top Five.
The University of California-Santa Barbara (72 points) falls one place to No. 6 this week, with the University of California-Irvine (71 points) sliding to No. 7. Pepperdine University (70 points), Long Beach State University (62 points) and the University of California-San Diego (55 points) round out the Top 10.
The University of California-Davis (51 points) moves up to No. 11, with Loyola Marymount University (47 points) falling to No. 12 after ranking at No. 10 last week. Concordia University (36 points) remains at No. 13, with Collegiate Water Polo Association Eastern Champion/NCAA qualifier Princeton University (35 points) jumping five spots to take over at No. 14 after ranking 19th last week.
Santa Clara University (30 points) completes the Top 15, with the United States Naval Academy (25 points), St. Francis College (16 points), California Baptist University (16 points), Brown University (13 points) and the United States Air Force Academy (8 points) earning the final spots in the Top 20.

2011 Men's Varsity Division III Top 10
For a second week in a row, the Division III Poll has a new No. 1
team as Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges recorded
an 11-9 victory over previously top-ranked Pomona-Pitzer Colleges
to notch 97 points and take over the top position for the Week
12/November 23 Men's Varsity Division III National Top 10 poll.
For CMS, the ranking returns the squad to the top spot after slipping to No. 2 last week in the wake of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championship.
Pomona-Pitzer (96 points) drops to No. 2, with the University of Redlands (89 points) holding at No. 3. California Lutheran University (82 points) and Johns Hopkins University (82 points) move into a tie at No. 4 to complete the Top Five.
Chapman University (78 points), Whittier College (70 points) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (64 points) remain at No. 6-to-8, respectively, with Occidental College (60 points) and University of La Verne (58 points) exchanging spots at No. 9 and 10.

2011 Men's Varsity CWPA Top 10
A new team claims the final No. 1 in the Week 12/November 23 Men's
Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Top 10 as
Princeton University moves to the top of the
league rankings after capturing the 2011 CWPA Eastern Championship
over the weekend at Harvard University.
Princeton, which was ranked at No. 4 last week and now stands as a unanimous No. 1 pick, taking the title causes significant changes as former No. 1 the United States Naval Academy (95 points) slips to No. 2.
St. Francis College (90 points) and Brown University (85 points) drop to No. 3 and 4, with Bucknell University (80 points) and Johns Hopkins University (75 points) remaining at No. 5 and 6.
Harvard University (70 points) joins Princeton as the only teams to move up in the final league poll of the season as the Crimson improve to No. 7 and drop Iona College (65 points) back to No. 8.
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (59 points) and George Washington University (34 points) complete the Top 10, with Fordham University (22 points) receiving votes.
