Johns Hopkins University's Danny Ovelar Named November 21 Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Johns Hopkins University goalie Danny Ovelar (Fr., Caracas, Venezuela/Emil Friedman) made 31 saves in leading the Blue Jays to a sixth place finish at the 2011 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Eastern Championship to garner the November 21 Men's Varsity Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week award.

He posted nine saves in a 14-12 opening round loss to then No. 16-ranked St. Francis College before notching 13 stops in a 13-7 victory against Iona College.  Ovelar wrapped up the weekend with nine saves in a 15-8 loss to Bucknell University in the fifth place game while earning All-Tournament Second Team honors in cage.

The award marks the fifth weekly honor of the season for Ovelar who previously garnered the September 5, September 26 and November 7 Rookie of the Week and September 12 Defensive Player of the Week awards.

In addition, he picked up All-Conference honors last week as he garnered the Southern Division Rookie of the Week award and All-South Second Team accolades.
