PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Goalie Garrett Sabesky (So., Lakeside, Calif./Coronado) made nine saves to claim Player of the Game honors as the No. 16-ranked Midshipmen of the United States Naval Academy handled No. 20 Bucknell University, 10-7, to claim the third place game at the 2013 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Championship.

The Midshipmen (19-15) conclude the year at 2-2 against the Bison (14-11) as Navy fell 8-6 and 11-10 in the regular season before sweeping the postseason meetings with a 9-8 win in the Southern Division title game two weeks ago at home in Annapolis, Md.

Navy never trailed in the game as Carl Dowzicky (So., Collegeville, Pa./Germantown Academy), Steven Emde (So., Ballwin, Mo./Parkway West) and Thomas Patterson (Jr., Orange, Calif./El Modena) swished shots with 6:57, 2:29 and 1:50 left in the first quarter, respectively, to grab a 3-0 lead.

Bucknell cut into the lead prior to the conclusion of the quarter as Nick Hale (So., Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo School) broke free for a score with 49 seconds on the clock.

Robert Sutherland (So., Denton, Texas/Ryan/The Hill School) opened the second quarter with a rocket from the wings 52 seconds into the period to make it 4-1, but Julian Colina (Sr., San Diego, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) countered at 2:37 to shrink the gap back down to a pair at 4-2.

Navy regained a three-score lead prior to the halftime horn as Jack Finch (Jr., San Mateo, Calif./Menlo) deposited a shot past Bucknell goalie Keegan Williams (Jr., Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo) with 1:58 remaining on the clock to make it 5-2.

The Bison attempted to rally back and take the lead as Colina fired in five-meter penalty shot and extra-man scores with 6:42 and 6:08 left in the third quarter, respectively, to move Bucknell to within 5-4, but back-to-back even-strength tallies by Carpenter Warren (So., Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall College) and Lucas MacLellan (So., Yorba Linda, Calif./Esperanza) with 1:11 and 17 seconds left in the quarter returned the lead to three at 7-4.

Both teams found the back of the cage in the first three minutes of the fourth quarter as Sean McDonald (Sr., Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) beat Williams at 6:04 to make it 8-4, before Jack Else (Sr., Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) slipped a shot past Sabesky at 5:29 to shrink the gap back down to three at 8-5.

The teams exchanged goals from there as Emde (5:01) put away a man-up score and Warren (4:22) chipped in a marker at even-strength for the Mids, while Alex Nowlin (Sr., Coto de Caza, Calif./Tesoro) and RJ Moore (Fr., Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) racked up natural (4:33) and man-up (3:28) scores for the Bison in establishing the 10-7 final score.

Warren and Emde led the way for Navy on offense, while Colina tallied a game-high three goals for Bucknell.
