BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Stanford University retains the No. 1 position as the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the 2022 Men’s Varsity National Top 20, Division III Top 10, Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) Top Five and Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Top Five Week 5/October 5 Polls.

Pomona-Pitzer Colleges hangs on at No. 1 in the Division III Top 10 Poll following a week in which the Sagehens experienced a setback against the University of Redlands.

Defending MAWPC Champion Fordham University stays at No. 1 in the MAWPC Top Five Poll, while Princeton University acquires the lead position in the NWPC Top Five rankings.

Voted on by a panel of coaches from the MAWPC, NWPC, Golden Coast Conference, Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), SCIAC and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the polls will be compiled and released on Wednesday during each week of the season through the week following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.

2022 Men’s Varsity National Top 20 (Week 5/October 5)

Stanford University remains at No. 1 in the Week 5/October 5 National Men’s Varsity Top 20 Poll.

The Cardinal (99 points) – which took over the top spot from the University of California last week by upending the Golden Bears by a 12-11 score in the semifinals of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Invitational – lead a Top 20 which experiences minor adjustments.

California (94 points) and the University of California-Los Angeles (92 points) break-up a tie at No. 2 to rate at No. 2 and 3, respectively, while the University of the Pacific (84 points) and the University of Southern California (81 points) stay at No. 4 and 5 for another seven-day run.

Long Beach State University (75 points), the University of California-Davis (71 points), the University of California-Santa Barbara (63 points), the University of California-Irvine (56 points) and Loyola Marymount University (52 points) hold tight at No. 6-to-10 to complete the upper echelon of the Top 10.

Pepperdine University (47 points) and Princeton University (47 points) both move up the rankings to tie at No. 11 with Harvard University (41 points) backing up to No. 13.  The University of California-San Diego (38 points), San Jose State University (33 points) and California Baptist University (22 points) stand at No. 14-to-16.

Santa Clara University (17 points) pulls in front of Fordham University (16 points) to take over at No. 17 and drop the Rams back to No. 18.  George Washington University (13 points) and St. Francis College Brooklyn (7 points) complete the Top 20.

2022 Men’s Varsity Division III Top 10 (Week 5/October 5)

Pomona-Pitzer Colleges remains No. 1 in the Week 5/October 5 Men’s Varsity Division III Top 10 Poll.

The Sagehens (99 points) – which experienced a 9-8 loss to the University of Redlands over the weekend – hang onto the top spot by two points over Redlands (91 points) and California Lutheran University (91 points) which both rise into a tie at No. 2.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (88 points) slips to No. 4 with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (79 points) taking over at No. 5.

Chapman University (73 points), Whittier College (72 points), the University of La Verne (70 points), Occidental College (51 points) and Johns Hopkins University (36 points) improve and fall to complete the Top 10.

Fordham University continues at No. 1 in the Week 5/October 5 voting Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Top Five Poll.

The Rams (98 points) maintain a one-point lead over George Washington University (97 points), while the United States Naval Academy (87 points) and Bucknell University (87 points) move into a tie at No. 3.

Wagner College (49 points) stays at No. 5 for another week.

2022 Men’s Varsity Northeast Water Polo Conference Top 5 (Week 5/October 5)

Princeton University takes over at No. 1 in the Week 5/October 5 Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) Top Five Poll.

The 2018 and 2021 NWPC Champion Tigers (98 points) flip the script and acquire a one point lead over 2016, 2017 and 2019 NWPC Champion Harvard University (97 points).  Harvard – which claimed the No. 1 spot from Princeton in the Week 3/September 21 voting after the Tigers led the Preseason, Week 1 and Week 2 balloting – slip back to No. 2.

St. Francis College Brooklyn (88 points), Brown University (85 points) and Iona University (82 points) remain at No. 3-to-5.
