BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The University of California and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges conclude the 2023 men’s season as the top-ranked teams in the nation as the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the official Week 14/December 6/Final Men’s Varsity National Top 20 and Division III Top 10 Polls.

Voted on by a panel of coaches, the polls are compiled and released on Wednesday through the week following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.

2023 Men’s Varsity National Top 20 (Week 14/December 6/Final)

The University of California – which captured the 2023 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Men’s Water Polo Championship over the weekend with defeats of Fordham University (16-6 W), host the University of Southern California (10-9 W) and the University of California-Los Angeles (13-11 W) – concludes the season at No. 1 in the 2023 Week 14/December 6/Final National Men’s Varsity Top 20 Poll.

California (100 points) rates as a unanimous top selection as the Golden Bears lead a Top 20 which experiences significant changes from the Week 13 balloting.

NCAA Championship runner-up UCLA (94 points) moves up to No. 2 with prior No. 1 USC (91 points) falling back to No. 3.  Stanford University (83 points) takes over at No. 4 with Princeton University (82 points) one point off a Top Four finish to claim Fifth Place.  Princeton’s Fifth Place mark is the highest achieved by a team outside the state of California in the history of men’s Top 20 voting.

The University of California-Irvine (75 points) remains at No. 6 with the quartet of Pepperdine University (60 points), San Jose State University (60 points), the University of California-Santa Barbara (60 points) and the University of California-Davis (60 points) completing the Top 10 by tying at No. 7.

Long Beach State University (59 points) stays at No. 11 with the pair of Fordham University (39 points) and Harvard University (39 points) tying at No. 12.  Loyola Marymount University (36 points) and the University of California-San Diego (36 points) are tied at No. 14, while California Baptist University (30 points) and the United States Naval Academy (22 points) stand at No. 16 and 17.

Santa Clara University (13 points) and University of the Pacific (13 points) are tied at No. 18 with Brown University (5 points) concluding the Top 20.

2023 Men’s Varsity Division III Top 10 (Week 14/December 6/Final)

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges – which defeated host Augustana College (12-4 W) and the University of Redlands (6-5 W) over the weekend to capture the 2023 USA Water Polo Division III Collegiate Championship – completes the season at No. 1 in the 2023 Week 14/December 6 Men’s Varsity Division III Top 10 Poll.

The national rankings remain mostly unchanged from the prior weeks as Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (100 points), Redlands (95 points), Chapman University (87 points) and Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (86 points) stay at No. 1-to-4, respectively, with Occidental College (78 points) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (78 points) tying at No. 5.

California Lutheran University (71 points), the University of La Verne (64 points), Johns Hopkins University (59 points) and Augustana College (57 points) complete the Division III Top 10.
