BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the Men’s Varsity National Top 20, Division III Top 10, Northeast Water Polo Conference (NEWPC) Top Five and Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Top Five Week 7/October 18 Polls for the 2017 season.
The University of Southern California remains at No. 1 this week as the first six positions in the National Top 20 remain unchanged from the Week 6/October 11 voting.
The Division III Top 10 Poll once again experiences radical changes with Pomona-Pitzer Colleges sticking at No. 1, but the reminder of the upper half of the rankings shifting in the wake of Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play and the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Championship.
Defending Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Champion Bucknell University hangs onto the top spot in the MAWPC Top Five rankings as a unanimous top selection, while St. Francis College Brooklyn rises to the top of the Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) Top Five on the strength of a victory against former front-runner Princeton University.
Voted on by a panel of coaches from the MAWPC, NEWPC, Golden Coast Conference, Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), SCIAC and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the polls will be compiled and released on Wednesday during each week of the season through the week following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.
2017 Men’s Varsity National Top 20 (Week 7/October 18)
The only thing constant is change – or the University of Southern California in men’s varsity water polo – as the Trojans retain their position on top for the third week in a row by standing at No. 1 in the Week 7/October 18 Men’s Varsity National Top 20 Poll.
USC (99 points) leads a Top 20 in which the Top Six remain unchanged with the University of California-Los Angeles (95 points), defending National Champion the University of California (92 points), Stanford University (85 points), University of the Pacific (80 points) and the University of California-Irvine (73 points) sticking at No. 2-to-6, respectively.
The inaugural change in the Week 7/October 18 Poll compared to its predecessor comes at No. 7 as Pepperdine University (66 points) jumps up two places. Long Beach State University (66 points) slips to No. 8, while the University of California-Davis (59 points) and the University of California-Santa Barbara (56 points) complete a new-look Top 10.
San Jose State University (46 points) is the biggest mover of the week as the team improves five spots to take over at No. 11. St. Francis College Brooklyn (45 points) acquires sole custody of the No. 12 berth with the University of California-San Diego (41 points), Princeton University (40 points) and Harvard University (32 points) coming in at No. 13-to-15, respectively.
Bucknell University (19 points), Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (18 points), California Baptist University (17 points), Brown University (14 points) and Fordham University (5 points) complete the Top 20.

2017 Men’s Varsity Division III Top 10 (Week 7/October 18)
The Sagehens of Pomona-Pitzer Colleges remain at No. 1 in the Week 7/October 18 Men’s Varsity Division III poll.
Pomona-Pitzer (96 points) leads a Top 10 which experiences significant changes in the wake of the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Championship and Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) competition.
Johns Hopkins University (93 points), which downed former No. 2 the Massachusetts Institute of Technology by an 11-10 score for the CWPA Division III title, trades spots with the Engineers to drop MIT (89 points) back to No. 3.
Chapman University (85 points) and the University of Redlands (82 points) rise and fall to stand at No. 4 and 5.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (73 points), California Lutheran University (52 points), the University of La Verne (35 points) and the California Institute of Technology (34 points) retain the No. 7-to-10 spots in completing the Top 10.

2017 Men’s Varsity Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Top 5 (Week 7/October 18)
Bucknell University retains its Preseason, Week 1, Week 2, Week 3, Week 4, Week 5 and Week 6 selection as the No. 1 team in the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) as the Bison top the Week 7/October 18 Top Five Poll.
The 2016 MAWPC Champion Bison (100 points) are once again a unanimous top selection after previously earning 100 points in the Preseason, Week 2, Week 3, Week 4, Week 5 and Week 6 polls.
Fordham University (94 points), George Washington University (91 points) and Wagner College (84 points) remain at No. 2-to-4, respectively, with Johns Hopkins University (49 points) breaking into the Top Five by dislodging the United States Naval Academy (32 points) for the final position.

2017 Men’s Varsity Northeast Water Polo Conference Top 5 (Week 7/October 18)
St. Francis College Brooklyn becomes the third team to rank at No. 1 in the Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) Top Five this season as the Terriers take over in the Week 7/October 18 rankings.
St. Francis Brooklyn (99 points), which topped former No. 1 Princeton University by a score of 13-10 in Brooklyn last week, follows the Tigers (Week 5, Week 6) and 2016 NWPC Champion Harvard University (Preseason, Week 1, Week 2, Week 3, Week 4) in leading the league rankings.
Princeton (96 points) drops back to No. 2, while Harvard (89 points), Brown University (86 points) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (80 points) round out the Top Five.
