BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Defending National Champion Stanford University remains the top-ranked team in the nation as the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the 2018 Women’s Varsity Week 5/February 14 National Top 25, Division III Top 10, CWPA Top 10 and CWPA Division III Top Five Polls.

Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (Division III), the University of Michigan (CWPA Top 10) and Macalester College (CWPA Division III Top Five) also retain top-billing in their respective rankings

Voted on by a panel of coaches from the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), the Golden Coast Conference, the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the Big West Conference, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and the CWPA based on the cumulative results of the season, the polls are compiled and released on Wednesday during the season through the week following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.

2018 Women’s Varsity National Top 25 (Week 5)

Stanford University, which captured the 2017 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship, remains the top-ranked team in the Week 5/February 14 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Women’s Varsity National Top 25 Poll.

The Cardinal (100 points) remain a unanimous top selection this week, while the University of California (94 points) edges out the University of Southern California (93 points) to acquire sole possession of the No. 2 spot after Cal and USC were tied last week.

The University of California-Los Angeles (89 points), the University of Hawaii (84 points), Arizona State University (80 points), the University of California-Irvine (75 points), University of the Pacific (74 points), the University of Michigan (68 points) and the University of California-Davis (63 points) stick at No. 4-to-10, respectively.

Loyola Marymount University (54 points) is the biggest mover of the Week jumping eight spots to move into the No. 11 berth.  Wagner College (50 points) and the University of California-San Diego (48 points) rise to No. 12 and 13, while San Diego State University (46 points) and Hartwick College (46 points) are now tied at No. 14.

Indiana University (44 points), the University of California-Santa Barbara (40 points) and San Jose State University (32 points) slide back to No. 16-18, respectively, with the duo of Long Beach State University (26 points) and California State University-Northridge (26 points) tying at No. 19.

Harvard University (22 points), Princeton University (17 points), Fresno State University (15 points), California Baptist University (6 points) and Marist College (5 points) complete the Top 25.

2018 Women’s Varsity Division III Top 10 (Week 5)

Pomona-Pitzer Colleges remains the uncontested top team in Division III as the Sagehens once again rank at No. 1 in the Week 5/February 14 Women’s Varsity Division III Top 10 Poll.

The Sagehens (100 points), who previously garnered 99 points in the Preseason voting prior to becoming a unanimous top selection, lead a Top 10 which experienced a degree of change with California Lutheran University (93 points) leapfrogging Whittier College (90 points) to take over at No. 2.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (84 points) and Chapman University (82 points) remain at No. 4 and 5, while the University of Redlands (73 points) improves to No. 6.

The University of La Verne (70 points) falls to No. 7 with Macalester College (60 points) and Connecticut College (42 points) climbing the ranks to take over at No. 8 and 9.

Occidental College (37 points) completes the Division III Top 10.

Two-time defending Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Champion the University of Michigan remains the top pick in the Week 5/February 14 Women’s Varsity CWPA Top 10 Poll.

Michigan (99 points) inches closer to rating as a unanimous top pick, while Hartwick College (94 points) bypasses Indiana University (92 points) to assume the No. 2 slot.

Harvard University (85 points), Princeton University (78 points), Bucknell University (77 points), Brown University (70 points), George Washington University (65 points), Saint Francis University (59 points) and Macalester College (44 points) once again wrap up the Top 10.

2018 Women’s Varsity Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III Top 10 (Week 5)

Macalester College, which captured the 2017 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Championship at home, remains at No. 1 in the Week 5/February 14 CWPA Division III Top Five Poll.

Macalester (95 points), which joined Grove City College (2010-2012) and Connecticut College (2013-2016) as the sole teams to ever claim the CWPA Division III league crown, sees its lead decrease from six to one point over Carthage College (94 points).

Connecticut (93 points), five-time (2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016) league runner-up Washington & Jefferson College (51 points) and Penn State Behrend (50 points) complete the Top Five.
