BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Defending National Champion the University of Southern California remains the undisputed top team in the country as the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the 2019 Week 9/March 20 Women’s Varsity National Top 25, Division III Top 10, CWPA Top 10 and CWPA Division III Top Five Polls.

Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (Division III), the University of Michigan (CWPA Top 10) and Macalester College (CWPA Division III Top Five) also retain No. 1 status in their respective rankings.

Voted on by a panel of coaches from the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), the Golden Coast Conference, the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the Big West Conference, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and the CWPA based on the cumulative results of the season, the polls are compiled and released on Wednesday during the season through the week following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.

2019 Women’s Varsity National Top 25 (Week 9/March 20)

The University of Southern California, which captured the 2018 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship, retains the title of top-ranked team in the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Women’s Varsity National Top 25 Poll.

USC (100 points) leads at Top 25 which experiences minor changes as Stanford University (96 points), the University of California-Los Angeles (92 points), the University of California (88 points), the University of Hawaii (84 points), the University of Michigan (80 points), University of the Pacific (74 points), Arizona State University (72 points), the University of California-Santa Barbara (68 points), the University of California-Irvine (66 points), the University of California-Davis (59 points), Loyola Marymount University (56 points) and Fresno State University (52 points) retain their positions at No. 2-to-13, respectively.

Long Beach State University (46 points), Wagner College (41 points) and the University of California-San Diego (39 points) each improve one position to take over at No. 14-to-16, while previously No. 14 Princeton University (37 points) slides back to No. 17.

Harvard University (32 points), San Jose State University (26 points), Marist College (24 points) and California State University-Northridge (17 points) remain at No. 18-to-21 for another week, with Indiana University (11 points), California Baptist University (11 points) and Azusa Pacific University (11 points) tying at No. 23. 

Bucknell University (9 points) concludes the Top 25 in the final position.

2019 Women’s Varsity Division III Top 10 (Week 9/March 20)

Pomona-Pitzer Colleges continues to hold the top spot in the Women’s Varsity Division III Top 10 Poll.

The Sagehens (100 points) lead a Top 10 which experiences shifts over the final six positions.

California Lutheran University (95 points), Whittier College (90 points) and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (81 points) hang on at No. 2-to-4 with the University of La Verne (80 points) rising up the ranks to assume the No. 5 spot.

The University of Redlands (78 points) and Chapman University (71 points) drop to No. 6 and 7, respectively, with Occidental College (63 points), Macalester College (61 points) and Monmouth College (33 points) completing the Top 10.

Princeton University (95 points), Harvard University (90 points), Bucknell University (84 points), Brown University (81 points), George Washington University (75 points), Saint Francis University (70 points), Macalester College (65 points), Monmouth College (47 points) and Grove City College (46 points) continue at No. 2-to-10 as there are no changes in the league rankings.

2019 Women’s Varsity Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III Top 10 (Week 9/March 20)

Macalester College, which captured the 2017 and 2018 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Championships, retains its rating at No. 1 in the CWPA Division III Top Five Poll.

Macalester (100 points), which joined Grove City College (2010-2012) and Connecticut College (2013-2016) as the sole teams to ever claim the CWPA Division III league crown, remains a unanimous top pick as the Scots hold a six point lead over Grove City (94 points).

Monmouth College (88 points) falls back to No. 3 with Austin College (70 points) and Connecticut (64 points) completing the Top Five.
