BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Indiana University alumnae Jessica Gaudreault and Shae (Fournier) La Roche both factored in a 20-11 loss to the Netherlands as Canada concludes Group A action at the 2024 Olympics in Paris with a 1-3 record.
Canada – which previously faced Hungary (12-7 L, July 29), the People’s Republic of China (12-7 W, July 31) and Australia (10-7 L, August 2) to claim Fourth Place in Group A to punch its ticket into the quarterfinals – will next be in action on Tuesday, August 6, against Group B champion Spain at a time to be determined.
The Netherlands dominated play against Canada by outscoring their opponent 5-4, 6-2, 4-3 and 5-2 in the first, second, third and fourth quarters, respectively.
La Roche registered a pair of goals and a field block during 19:31 of playing time in the loss by shooting shot two-for-four (one-for-three action shots/one-for-one man-up) to increase her Olympic statistics to three-of-14 shooting with two field blocks, a steal and four rebounds.
Gaudreault stopped eight-of-22 shots she faced (three-of-11 action shots/three-of-six man-up/zero-of-one penalty shots/one-of-one counter attack) in 21:50 with a rebound to take the loss. Through all four 2024 Olympic games for Canada, she has 33 saves on 76 shots with five steals.
