University of Missouri-vs.-No. 15 Pennsylvania State University Scoresheet (2025 Men’s National Collegiate Club Championship – Game #24/13th-15th Place)

CARLISLE, Pa. — Pennsylvania State University’s Max McGovern (So., Drexel Hill, Pa.) scored with 1:42 left in the second overtime period as the Mid-Atlantic Division Champion/No. 15-ranked Nittany Lions claimed a 10-9 overtime win versus Missouri Valley Division Champion the University of Missouri in a 13th/15th place game at the 2025 Men’s National Collegiate Club Championship hosted at the Carlisle YMCA Aquatic Center.

Courtesy the win, Penn State ties with Mid-Atlantic Division Championship runner-up Villanova University for 13th in the final 16-team, 30-game championship standings.  The Wildcats claimed a 19-17 overtime win against New York Division Champion Columbia University to complete the year as the equals of the Nittany Lions in the final National Collegiate Club Championship standings.

Missouri ties with Columbia for 15th place in the final standings as the 13th and 15th positions are not typically played to fruition at the National Collegiate Club Championship due to time limitations.  Competition on the championship’s final day (Sunday) runs from 9:00 a.m. to nearly 5:00 p.m. with the Seventh, Fifth, Third, First, Ninth and 11th Place games.  Additional contests – without a secondary facility to host simultaneous games – bring the potential 13th and 15th place games into the early evening hours with teams needing to return home via car/airplane at later hours or incur the consequences of additional missed academic/class time.

The game was a back-and-forth affair from the opening sprint in the first quarter to the closing horn at the conclusion of overtime as Penn State rallied back from an early deficit to overcome Missouri.

In the first quarter, Brendan Raskin (6:22) and Blake Stanczewski (Fr., Harleysville, Pa.) (5:05) delivered for Missouri and Penn State, respectively, prior to Danny McAuliffe turning the tide in favor of the Tigers with successful five-meter (4:40) and natural (4:07) goals.  Raskin cushioned the Show Me State institution’s lead to 4-1 at 3:33 before McGovern (2:32) and Stanczewski (45 seconds, man-up) sandwiched a man-up answer from Trent Batten (1:15) to make the score 5-3 in favor of the Tigers following seven minutes of action.

The margin disappeared within the first four minutes of the second quarter as Brien Yaglenski (Sr., Schwenksville, Pa.) and Stanczewski (3:09) tied the match at five-all.  Missouri regained the lead before halftime as Raskin completed a hat-trick with 2:45 left in the second quarter to permit the Tigers to enter the break with a slim 6-5 scoreboard advantage.

Penn State flipped the script in the third quarter thanks to Danny Crump (Sr., Blue Bell, Pa.) who rattled in penalty shot (6:38) and man-up (4:28) markers to put the Nittany Lions ahead for the first time at 7-6.

PSU appeared in control of the contest as Crump struck again via another penalty shot with 4:57 left in the fourth quarter to pad the lead to 8-6.  However, Alan Conway led the Tigers back into the contest by scoring with 3:10 left in regulation and again with a Hail Mary at the buzzer to make it an eight-all contest and force overtime.

Missouri gained the better of play in the first OT period as Seamus Haney converted a man-up opportunity with 1:30 on the clock to put the Tigers ahead 9-8.

Penn State’s offense experienced a reawakening in the second OT period as Mason DiMauro (Fr., Hatfield, Pa.) tied the game at nine-all with 2:16 left before sudden death overtime.  McGovern made extra-time a moot point as the sophomore from Drexel Hill, Pa., delivered the deciding factor at the 1:42 mark to gain a 10-9 lead.  The Nittany Lions’ defense made the one-score lead hold up down the stretch as Penn State closed out its 2025 season with a win.

For Missouri, Raskin posted a hat-trick with three goals.  Conway and McAuliffe put up pairs of markers with Haney and Batten notching solo scores.

Crump (three), Stanczewski (three) and McGovern (two) combined for eight of Penn State’s 10 goals to go along with solo contributions by Yaglenski and DiMauro.
