GROVE CITY, Pa. — The Washington & Jefferson College women’s water polo team put together a successful return to play by picking up wins over host Grove City College, 17-11, and Penn State Behrend, 15-12, at the James E. Longnecker Competition Pool.

Sydney Neumann (Long Beach, Calif./Millikan) and Hallie Ratcliff (Friendswood, Texas/Friendswood) combined to account for 20 goals in the victories.

The Presidents have won three-straight games and improve their record to 6-9 overall.

Washington & Jefferson used a methodical effort to take down the host Wolverines.

W&J lead 4-2 after the first before seeing its lead swell to 9-3 at halftime.

Neumann put the Presidents on the board first with back-to-back goals. The Presidents stretched their lead to six by halftime with three-straight goals to finish the half. Anastacia Didovich (Venice, Fla./Venice) started the run before Neumann scored a pair just before the break.

The Presidents pushed their lead into double figures late in the third when Emma Halle (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) scored at the 35 second mark. W&J led 16-7 heading into the fourth.

The Wolverines scored four of the five fourth quarter goals, but the damage was already done as W&J picked up the win.

Neumann led the way with five goals. Ratcliff and Didovich scored four times apiece.

A strong second half helped the Presidents pull away from Penn State Behrend.

The Lions scored first and took a 3-1 lead late in the first quarter. A pair of goals by the Presidents, a score by Neumann at the 1:45 mark and a snipe by Halle with 26 seconds left evened the score after the first quarter.

The Presidents scored four of the first five goals during the second quarter. A score each by Ratcliff and Neumann gave W&J its first lead. Halle tacked on another score before a Behrend goal cut the W&J lead to 7-5 at halftime.

W&J carried its momentum into the third quarter, as the Red and Black opened a five-goal lead by the midway point of the third. Ratcliff scored twice in the final 48 seconds of the third to extend the Presidents’ lead to 14-8 heading into the fourth quarter.

Halle scored the lone W&J goal of the fourth as the Presidents finished off the win.

Ratcliff posted six goals to lead the team and match the game high. Neumann tallied five scores for the second time in as many games. Halle finished with three scores.
