2019 Big Ten Division Men’s Schedule

Big Ten Division Schedule Notes

The division’s competitive format is comprised of two regional based on geography weekends, a crossover weekend and the championship weekend. During the regular season, teams play every opponent once to determine the seeding for championship. While all teams attend the championship, one team is needed to attend both regional events and not the crossover based on the number of teams in the division. Northwestern University was selected based on geography and their estimated travel time to Michigan State vs. Indiana.

As of Friday, September 13th, the University of Iowa has not been able to officially confirm their ability to host. We hope they will have this, including hours, confirmed by Thursday, September 19th.

As of Friday, October 18th, the schedule for Indiana University has been revised as the University of Michigan will not be attending. In order to ensure all teams receive four games, Indiana will play Wisconsin and Illinois will play Iowa in exhibition matches as these teams had previously played each other. These two games will follow normal rules but will not count toward season records.

Additionally, the University of Iowa also just notified the league office late on Friday evening that they will not be participating during the Indiana weekend. By league rules, this is considered a “no contest” and results in suspension of the team. In order to avoid an additional schedule change, several teams have agreed to create a Big Ten Combination Squad comprised of player looking for additional and valuable tie in the water. Players participating on the exhibition squad are still considered eligible to compete in their teams other scheduled matches.

As of Thursday, October 24th, the Big Ten Championship host site and schedule have been revised. The University of Michigan notified their facility was unable to host the weekend of November 2-3rd. While Michigan State and Michigan had worked together to potentially host at East Lansing High School, the division voted 6-2 to allow Purdue University to host after they confirmed they received approval from their administration and aquatics department. Additionally, the schedule was revised to an eight-team format following the suspension of the University of Iowa after committing a “no-contest” the weekend of October 19-20th.

Finally, the division also addressed the participation of the University of Michigan who was unable to participate in either of the regular season tournaments due to circumstances out of their control. Teams first agreed to allow Michigan and its players participate regardless of the 50% regular season rule. Additionally, teams determined the placement Michigan as the 4th Seed based on a protocol agreed upon by the remaining seven teams with a vote of 5-2.

PLEASE NOTE: There is an important message posted below the championship seeding regarding parking and campus access to Purdue on Saturday due to the home football game!!!

PARKING INFORMATION: Purdue University’s pool is the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center located at 355 N. Martin Jischke Drive, West Lafayette, In 47906. The aquatic center is attached to the Frances A. Cordova Recreational Sports Center or (CoRec), abbreviated on the map as CREC. Participants will be able to enter the Aquatics Center Directly and not need to enter though the actual CoRec entrance.

Parking will be significantly hindered by the home football game on Saturday. It is critical that all schools arrive by 1:00pm or they will find it nearly impossible to enter campus due to road closures. Normally between 1-4:00 p.m. all non-emergency vehicles are not allowed near the part of campus that the Aquatic Center is located on. The highlighted map from Purdue offers parking options for visiting teams, officials, and spectators. The actual parking lot for the CoRec and Aquatic Center will be open to the public but the school is expecting much of it to be used for football parking.  The highlighted garage and lot are farther away but equipment and teams can always be dropped off at the entrance before parking farther away.
