Position Summary:  The Pingry School prides itself on a rich academic and athletic success history. Developing student-athletes of equal passion and character is a priority of our program. We offer over 83 different teams in the Middle and Upper Schools, and over 90% of our Upper School students play at least one interscholastic sport. Qualifications:
● Demonstrated experience in water polo, with preference given to candidates who have competed at the collegiate level or possess substantial high school experience.
● Prior coaching experience, preferably within an educational environment that highlights a candidate’s ability to foster athletic, emotional, and psychological development.
● Ability to commit to the time requirements of the position, including the ability to travel to practices and games, some of which may be scheduled during weekends. Practices for Upper School Athletics commence at 3:30 pm, with varying end times.

Examples Of Duties: This position instructs high school athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success in their program. The employee must understand and abide by all building, Tacoma School District and Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) policies, regulations, procedures and guidelines. 

Essential Job Functions:

1. Supervises assistant coaches and student athletes to promote effective student learning through participation in athletic activities. 

2. Plans, develops and implements an effective program for the particular sport to prepare athletes both physically and mentally to participate with confidence and self-assurance in athletic contests; formulates behavioral objectives for the coming sports season; administers discipline when necessary in a fair and consistent manner; emphasizes safety precautions; provides opportunities for each participant to achieve some success; schedules preseason meeting with parents to establish a personal relationship and to review the total scope of the program; informs participants prior to season about the district’s policies and regulations and extracurricular activity contract. 

3. Organizes practice sessions that are both stimulating and instructive, and conducted on a regular daily basis with the idea of developing the athlete’s greatest potential; teaches basic fundamental skills of the sport; prepares daily practice activities and keeps records on file; emphasizes and promotes good sportsmanship in the conduct of team members and coaches; abides by regulations in the district Coaches’ Handbook. 

4. Assumes responsibility for all phases of the program involving coordination of facility use in conjunction with building athletic director; follows building and district procedures for budgeting and purchase of equipment through ASB; follows district procedures for handling injuries; submits to the athletic trainer a list of names of students who sustain incapacitating injuries during the season; maintains injury records in conjunction with athletic trainer; prearranges transportation with the building athletic director. 

5. Informs students and parents of the proper procedures of eligibility and special rules for the particular sport; posts rules and issues them to each participant. 

6. Establishes an effective system for issuing equipment and maintaining records including dates and times of issuance; assures the systematic return of all equipment, the cleaning and storing of equipment; performs weekly safety check for all equipment; holds students responsible for lost equipment; completes inventory lists and provides copies to the building athletic director.

7. Issues letters and awards in accordance with previously established written regulations on file with the building athletic director; makes written recommendations to building athletic director, regarding program, facilities, and transportation problems; assists the building athletic director and district athletic director in achieving the objectives of the school’s athletic program

1. Attends all district and building athletic meetings as called by building athletic director and/or district athletic director. 

2. Updates knowledge by attending clinics, workshops, and maintaining familiarity with current athletic programs; keeps current with regard to rule changes as adopted by WIAA and Tacoma School District 

3. Performs related duties as assigned. 

Conditions: Work with students in outdoor playing fields, indoor and outdoor courts, gymnasium, swimming pool or other sports facilities; physical ability to lift and move sports equipment and demonstrate sports skills when necessary; may be exposed to infectious diseases and inclement weather.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience: Graduation from high school or equivalent and a minimum of three years of experience as an assistant coach; must be at least 21 years of age (WIAA regulation); or any combination of experience and training which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the work and that meets federal and state requirements.

Allowable Substitution: Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be evaluated by the Human Resources department for comparability. 

Licenses/Special Requirements

The Broward County (Fla.) Public Schools seeks water polo coaches at Cypress Bay (Weston, Fla.), Pompano Beach (Pompano Beach, Fla.), J.P. Taravella (Coral Springs, Fla.) and South Plantation (Plantation, Fla.) High Schools.

Qualifications: Standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of any General Education Development (GED) Testing Program. Florida State Statute mandates that all high school coaches hold a valid Florida Educator Certificate. Applicants who do not hold a valid Florida Educator Certificate will be required to obtain an Athletic Coaching Certificate from the Florida Department of Education. Knowledge of the sport and the ability to impart this knowledge.

RESPONSIBILITIES : The Coach shall

4. ensure that all information and materials are conveyed to assistants.
5. be fully aware of legal responsibilities of his/her activity, take precautions against negligence, and keep the staff fully informed thereof.

7. recommend assistant coaches.
8. recommend letter winners.
9. use professionally sound coaching methods.
10. set a good example for assistants.
11. be highly competent in the activity (i.e. rules, techniques, strategies and skills).
12. motivate the staff and players toward desired goals.
13. set the pattern for wholesome public relations within the school, community and other schools involved.
14. interpret his/her program to the community as a part of the complete educational program.
15. review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibility.
16. ensure adherence to good safety procedures.
17. perform any other duties as may be assigned by the principal or athletic director.
18. follow federal and state laws, as well as School Board policies.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently as needed to move objects.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the School Board.

Pegasus Aquatics (Texas) Seeks Water Polo Coach (January 13, 2024)

Pegasus Water Polo Academy, headquartered in Dallas, Texas, seeks a Water Polo Coach to join their elite coaching staff in developing 200+ student-athletes (aged 7-18). Reporting to the Head Coach, the position is responsible for performing assistant coaching duties and assisting the Head Coach in managing and administrating the sports program. The ideal candidate will have experience playing NCAA Division I-3 level Water Polo and be passionate about student-athlete development.

Candidates must be US citizens or Permanent residents, be based in Dallas/DFW, or be willing to relocate to the metroplex.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Previous water polo playing experience at a highly competitive level
  • Must have a positive energy attitude, be a team player & possess excellent communication skills.
  • Be able to complete a background check successfully.
  • Possess the ability and be passionate about training and motivating student-athletes
  • Willingness to work flexible hours with frequent evenings and weekends and travel locally or nationally for tournaments.

Preferred

  • Previous coaching/playing experience in NCAA DI-DIII is highly preferred
  • Experience teaching waterpolo fundamentals to young/new athletes

  • Strong desire to grow the sport and bring West/East Coast level of play to North Texas.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an assistant coach for the program, coaching athletic events, daily practices, and scheduled tournaments.
  • Develop student-athletes, individually and as a team, demonstrating game techniques and assessing the need for individual and team improvement areas.
  • Work closely with Pegasus Head Coach to implement Pegasus’ Athlete Development Plan.
  • Manage admin tasks related to practice groups, competition teams, clinics, camps, and membership development (with support from Pegasus administrative director).
  • Provide effective leadership to student-athletes and serve as a positive role model encouraging development, competitive performance, and good sportsmanship.
  • Work with and communicate effectively with all team members and support staff within the Pegasus Community.

Position Summary: The Hill Athletics program creates opportunities for student-athletes to compete at the highest level of independent school sports. We are committed to providing an experience that develops character, emphasizes teamwork, and encourages healthy lifelong habits.

Reporting to our Director of Athletics, the head girls’ water polo coach will lead a program of varsity and JV girls’ water polo teams. All Hill head coaches will ensure that their programs serve to further promote the values we teach our students in all areas of school life.  The integral work and leadership of our head varsity coaches is essential to the success of our athletics teams as well as the fulfillment of the School’s mission to prepare students fully for college, careers, and life. Responsibilities and Qualifications

Head varsity coaches are responsible for leading every facet of their respective program and must recognize that the commitment to fulfill the responsibilities below will entail a considerable amount of time both during and out of the season.

  • Help recruit, develop, and retain coaches in their program.
  • Work with the Admission Office to help identify student-athletes who will positively contribute to the School and to their athletics program. Actively work to recruit highly qualified student-athletes from both inside and outside the local community.
  • Develop and manage a plan to develop student-athletes in the program.
  • Devise daily practice plans.
  • Collaborate with the Athletics Office on game scheduling.
  • Remain current in the rules and procedures of their sport at the league, state, and national level. Serve on seeding committees and organizations, as appropriate.
  • Be knowledgeable about the college recruiting timelines in their sport, and support student-athletes who want to attempt to continue playing in college. Coaches will communicate with these student-athletes’ college counselors to coordinate an athletics piece, if appropriate, to the student-athlete’s search.
  • Maintain an updated social media presence, including timely game results in season, and work with our Office of Strategy Management to promote their program and their student-athletes.
  • Assist any efforts of the Office of Institutional Giving related to their program.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Hill alumni in their sport.
  • Serve on the Athletics Advisory Team, which meets regularly throughout the year.

Candidates should have an interest in working in other areas of school life which might include teaching (history, math, and/or science desirable) advising a small group of students, and actively contributing to residential life.

The ideal candidate should have the following qualifications:

  • Technical water polo knowledge to successfully coach college-bound players.
  • Ability to support the interest of high-level water polo student-athletes in the School’s admission candidate pool.
  • A vibrant network to help support the college recruiting process of appropriate Hill water polo players.
  • A proven track record of promoting student learning through water polo; at least two years of experience in coaching.
  • A demonstrated openness and responsiveness to constructive feedback and a strong commitment to continuous improvement and professional growth.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and experience working collaboratively in team settings.
