NCAA & Collegiate Club Rules Test

Both the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) require officials to pass a rules test to be eligible to officiate.

Note, there are differences on how officials must handle taking the test(s) to be eligible to call either varsity or collegiate club games. In either case, the test(s) is open book and meant to evaluate the official’s competency of the current NCAA Water Polo Rules and Interpretations.

Officials wishing to call CWPA Collegiate Club Games during either the men’s and/or women’s seasons must pass the rules test located below. CWPA Varsity Officials must complete the NCAA Rules Test through the Arbiter Site as required by the NCAA Rules Committee (see Varsity tab). The below test is approved for use of the CWPA and should not be utilized by outside groups without written permission of the CWPA Commissioner or Assistant Commissioner.

Officials should contact if you do not receive your results within 72 hours of submitting your test. Your results will also be shared with the CWPA Coordinator of Officials Ed Reed at

Please select the best answer as it relates to each question. This test is open book and is meant to evaluate your competency in the current NCAA Water Polo Rules and Interpretations. A passing grade is considered 90% or higher and must be accomplished in no more than three attempts within the same season.

Officials who wish to call varsity games (and club games) during either the men’s and/or women’s seasons must register with Arbiter and pass the rules test located on that page.  Officials should access the page by CLICKING HERE and registering for the Arbiter site.  Officials working CWPA Varsity Games are eligible to have their membership covered by the CWPA but must register through a special portal that can be obtained by contacting the Assistant Commissioner at

Questions regarding Arbiter should be forwarded to National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Water Polo Coordinator of Officials Dr. Bob Corb at or 562-216-3328.
