BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The Big Ten Conference office released its Spring 2024 Academic All-Big Ten team with a record 243 University of Michigan student-athletes earning the distinction, including 14 Wolverines’ women’s water polo competitors. The total tops the previous record of 238 set in 2021.

Criteria for making the Academic All-Big Ten team includes being in at least their second academic year and maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.

The breakdown for Michigan’s spring sports is 14 from baseball, six from men’s golf, seven from women’s golf, 34 from men’s lacrosse, 27 from women’s lacrosse, 39 from rowing, 14 from softball, seven from men’s tennis, six from women’s tennis, 34 from men’s track and field, 41 from women’s track and field and 14 from water polo.  Water Polo is not a Big Ten sponsored sport as the Wolverines compete in the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA).

Student-athletes with a GPA of 3.7 or higher for the current academic year, excluding summer school, are eligible for the Distinguished Scholar Award.
