BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The United States Naval Academy will push away from the dock at home in Lejeune Hall and Scott Natatorium along with fellow Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) institutions Fordham University, George Washington University, Johns Hopkins University, La Salle University, Salem University and Wagner College;  Iona College and Princeton University; and the collegiate club men’s team from Lindenwood University on Saturday-Sunday, September 1-2, during the opening weekend of 2018 men’s water polo intercollegiate competition in Annapolis, Md. 

Per National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) statistical guidelines, games against Lindenwood and all statistics (goals, assists, saves, etc.) do not count towards the records of the competing varsity institutions or their student-athletes along with the National Polls.  However, the results of the games are used for purposes of determining Lindenwood’s position in the Men’s National Collegiate Club Top 20 Poll.

On Saturday, September 1, all action with occur at Lejeune Hall as La Salle-vs.-Lindenwood (9:00 a.m.) and Navy-vs.-Iona (10:15 a.m.) lead up to an 11:30 a.m. rematch of the 2018 MAWPC title game as champion George Washington and runner-up Wagner clash where last year’s league title was decided.  Following the title tilt rematch, Fordham-vs.-Salem (12:45 p.m.), Johns Hopkins-vs.-Princeton (2:00 p.m.), La Salle-vs.-Iona (3:15 p.m.), Navy-vs.-Lindenwood (4:30 p.m.), George Washington-vs.-Salem (5:45 p.m.), Wagner-vs.-Princeton (7:00 p.m.) and Johns Hopkins-vs.-Fordham (8:15 p.m.) conclude the tournament’s opening day 10-game docket.

On Sunday, September 2, competition will occur at both Lejeune (six games) and Scott (three games).

At Lejeune, a clash of the past and present will take place to start the final day of action as former Princeton head coach/Navy alum/current Navy head coach Luis Nicolao takes on his former team led by Dustin Litvak at 9:00 a.m.  Wagner-vs.-Salem (10:15 a.m.), Johns Hopkins-vs.-Lindenwood (11:30 a.m.), Navy-vs.-Fordham (2:00 p.m.), George Washington-vs.-Iona (3:15 p.m.) and Lindenwood-vs.-Salem (4:30 p.m.) wrap-up play at the site.

Across campus,, George Washington-vs.-Wagner (9:00 a.m.), Fordham-vs-Iona (10:15 a.m.) and La Salle-vs.-Johns Hopkins (3:15 p.m.) will take place in Scott.

Due to the funeral of Senator and 1958 U.S. Naval Academy graduate John McCain, fans attending games on Sunday, September 2, should allow extra time for travel to the Naval Academy grounds.
