WASHINGTON, Pa. — The Grove City College women’s water polo team dropped a pair of Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III conference matches at Washington & Jefferson College’s Henry Memorial Center. The Wolverines opened the day with a 14-8 setback against Division III No. 10-ranked Carthage College before dropping an 11-2 decision to Macalester College in the nightcap.
Freshman Elizabeth Andrews (Newberg, Ore./Veritas) fired in three goals for Grove City in the opener while sophomore Sonni Kiefer (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) and senior Abby Jank (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) both scored twice. Sophomore Abby Spicher (Erie, Pa./McDowell) added a goal for the Wolverines.
Junior Maggie Blume (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) assisted three goals in the opener while Spicher assisted on two scores. Andrews and Jank also tallied assists.
Jank led Grove City’s defense with three steals. In goal, senior Mary Frank (Centreville, Md./Queen Anne’s County) stopped seven shots. Grove City led 5-4 at halftime.
Kiefer and junior Brynna Bartlett (Olive Branch, Miss./St. George’s) both scored against Macalester. Blume and Jank each recorded assists. Jank had a team-leading three steals while Kiefer and Spicher each totaled two thefts. Frank stopped nine shots.
