Appointed Director of Communications in July 2006, Ed Haas is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining an effective and creative communications program, including: designing, writing, and editing media guides, press releases and other promotional materials; coordinating the national varsity, club, Division III and Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) polls; creating and maintaining the organization’s web pages; and assisting at CWPA events for the second largest collegiate athletic organization in the United States behind only the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

During his tenure, he has overseen the league’s technology initiatives that have kept the CWPA on the cutting edge among NCAA Division I, II and III athletic conferences.

He led the reconstruction of www.CollegiateWaterpolo.org in the summer of 2007 and again in 2010, resulting in the preeminent website for water polo content which peaked at 28.7 million views in November of 2012.  The site was again reconstructed in the Summer of 2017.

Notably, the Collegiate Water Polo Association was the first water polo league and among the first single or multi-sport conferences (Division I, II, III) to launch social media sites, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, while becoming one of the first conferences in the NCAA to provide live video-streaming of championship contests through the league’s technology partner, Stretch Internet.

Named Director of Sports Information at Franklin & Marshall in July 2000 and promoted to Assistant Athletic Director in May 2001, he was responsible for publicizing the efforts of the Diplomats’ student-athletes in 26 varsity intercollegiate sports while overseeing an award-winning sports information operation and athletic department.

During his tenure, he promoted a institution record number of All-America campaigns, while garnering national print coverage in the New York Times, ESPN the Magazine, the Wall Street Journal, USA Today and Sports Illustrated, among other publications.  Further, he rebuilt the athletic record books, successfully coordinated an unprecedented number of College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America and NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship awards, streamed the first athletic events in the history of the college and relaunched F&M’s athletics website, GoDiplomats.com.

Beyond his communications responsibilities at F&M, he coordinated the institution’s post-season championship appearances (Centennial Conference, ECAC, NCAA) and compliance efforts, while coordinating scheduling for both football and men’s basketball.  Further, he guided the office to rate among the leaders in athletics communications on the national stage.

He began his career as the Assistant Director of Athletics and Sports Information Director at Alvernia College during the 1999-2000 academic year.  At Alvernia, he oversaw the Crusaders’ sports information, marketing and compliance functions, while earning the 2000 Compaq Computers National Play of the Year award in basketball and rebuilding the college’s record books and website. Further, he compiled the first athletic records in the history of the college and served as the head coach of men’s and women’s cross country during the Spring of 2000.

A graduate assistant sports information director at East Stroudsburg University during the 1998-1999 academic year under CoSIDA Hall of Fame Sports Information Director Pete Nevins, he assumed the role of interim sports information director during the spring while writing for the Pocono Record.

A former intern at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Charlotte, N.C., and the Harrisburg Heat professional indoor soccer team in Harrisburg, Pa., Haas is a 1998 graduate of DeSales University with Bachelor of Science degrees in Sport Management and Marketing.  He earned a Master’s Degree in Education with concentration in Sport Management from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania in May 2000.

Outside the office, he serves as a member of the CoSIDA Academic All-America Committee, West Sadsbury Township (Pa.) Planning Commission and participated on the Western Chester County (Pa.) Regional Fire Department Committee which consolidated three companies into the Keystone Valley Fire Department. The fire effort marked one of the first times in Commonwealth of Pennsylvania history that three companies were consolidated for improved response time and service. In March 2015, Haas was appointed to the three-member West Sadsbury Township Board of Supervisors, the Keystone Valley Fire District Board and was elected Vice-Chairman of both the Board of Supervisors and Fire District Board in April of 2015.  He was re-elected to another six-year term on the West Sadsbury Township Board of Supervisors in the Fall of 2017 and was elected Chairman of both the Planning Commission and the Board of Supervisors in January 2020.  He stepped back from the Board of Supervisors Chairmanship in January 2021 to refocus on his commitment to sports communications.
