SAN DIEGO, Calif. — The Bucknell University women’s water polo team dropped a pair of games to ranked opponents on the final day of the Aztec Invitational hosted by San Diego State University at the Aztec Aquaplex.
After falling to No. 19-ranked California State Unviersity-Northridge, 13-3, the Bison gave the host/No. 21 Aztecs a battle before falling by an 11-7 margin.
Against the host Aztecs, Kali Hyham (three goals), Ally Furano (two goals) and Emily Konishi (two goals) enjoyed multi-goal outings. Konishi’s first goal of the contest was the 100th of her collegiate career.
San Diego State led, 8-4, at halftime, but Bucknell clawed back into the game by netting three of the next four goals during the third quarter. The Aztecs responded, holding the Bison off the scoreboard in the final frame while adding two strikes of their own.
Against the Matadors, who earlier this season topped Bucknell, 10-6, at the Wolverine Invitational hosted by the University of Michigan, Gigi Rojahn led the offense with a goal and an assist. Marta Considine also found the back of the net; she now needs six more goals to reach the 100-goal plateau.
