MONMOUTH, Ill. — Sophomore goalkeeper Kyle Jones broke his own school saves record by making 23 stops in Monmouth College’s 20-13 season-opening loss to Salem University.

Jones turned in 13 saves by halftime as Monmouth stayed within reach of the Tigers thanks in part to Tommy Schneider netting two, first quarter goals on his way to a three goal night. Trailing 8-4 at intermission, the Scots came out firing in the second half.

Jesus Aguirre scored two of his three goals in the third period and Joseph Addison netted his second of three goals to cut the deficit to three at 10-7 with 5:49 left in the quarter. Six different Scots scored in the game, but Monmouth would get no closer as SIU stretched their lead over the final eight minutes.
