KENOSHA, Wis.  — The Carthage College women’s water polo team split a pair of Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III-West Region home games by defeating Wittenberg University, 6-3, before falling to Macalester College, 6-4.

Against Wittenberg, the visiting Tigers jumped on the scoreboard first with a pair of goals to snag the lead.  However, Morrigan Bushroe-Stumpf got the Firebirds on the board in the third quarter with 3:30 left. 

Carthage closed the quarter with goals from Alyssa Sayatovic and Brenna Carstens to carry a 3-2 lead into the final eight minutes of regulation.

Kaylin Machuca got in the score column, moving the Firebirds ahead 4-2 before a pair of goals from Bushroe-Stumpf secured the win. 

Facing Macalester in the nightcap, Carthage fell behind once again as the Scots scored first.

The home team responded with two unanswered goals from Bushroe-Stumpf, but Macalester put in two in the second quarter. Grace Steinberg connected on a tally with 3:49 remaining in the first half to deadlock the teams at three-all. 

Following a goal in the third for Macalester, Sayatovic found the back of the net with 3:56 left to again tie the teams. However, the Scots totaled two more goals in the fourth to win 6-4. 

Morrigan Bushroe-Stumpf led the Firebirds on the day with five goals, while goalkeeper Ella Selman made 29 saves between two games for Carthage.
