No. 16 University of Virginia-vs.-No. 10 University of California-Davis Scoresheet (2023 Collegiate Water Polo Association Championship – Game #24)

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Katie Jennings scored four times to garner Player of the Game recognition as Sierra Pacific Division runner-up/No. 10-ranked the University of California-Davis overcame Atlantic Division Champion/No. 16 the University of Virginia, 14-4, to tie for 13th place in the final standings of the 2023 Women’s National Collegiate Club Championship hosted by the University of California-Los Angeles.

Competing at UCLA’s Spieker Aquatics Center, the Aggies finish in a tie with Southeast Division Champion/No. 15 Florida State University for 13th place, while Virginia ties North Atlantic Division Champion/No.14 the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for 15th place as the Seminoles defeated the Engineers, 10-9, in the other 13th/15th place contest.

Due to a lack of available pool time, the 13th and 15th place games in the 16-team championship tournament are not played out with the victors and fallen tying based on their results.

UC-Davis never trailed in the game by opening up a 4-1 by the conclusion of the first quarter and snagging a 7-2 halftime lead.  Leading 11-4 at the conclusion of the third quarter, UC-Davis capped off the victory with a 3-0 outburst over the final seven minutes to pick-up a 10-goal win.

Carolyn Pitorak led the way for Virginia with three goals, while Anna Alberti chipped in a solo marker.  Katie Treene made 11 saves in cage.

Jennings (four), Kaitlyn Heindl (three), Katharina Zajonc (two) and Aidan Jacobo (two) racked up multi-goal games for UC-Davis with Kayla Landman, Annika Krueger and Amiah Merrill tacking on single strikes.  Goalkeeper Ali Diaz made 11 saves to earn the victory.
