GRESHAM, Ore. — Mt. Hood Community College seeks an Aquatics Manager.
The position manages the daily operations of the MHCC Aquatic Center which includes an Olympic 50-meter competition pool, 25-yard pool, warm therapy pool, a hydro-therapy pool, and a summer youth recreation camp that serves local, regional, and national interests and needs. Promotes and cultivates an environment that values diversity, equity and inclusion and engages in evidence-based decision-making, while supporting the mission, goals, and values of the department and college. Assists with the development and management of policies and procedures, carrying out strategic goals, collaborating with internal and external liaisons, managing the department budget, and providing direct supervision of department employees.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Manages all business and operational aspects of the College’s aquatics and summer youth recreation camp.
- Provides comprehensive and consistent programs and services that effectively, efficiently, and safely meet the goals of the College and community’s needs.
- Provides event management direction for the aquatics and summer recreation camp including the preparation of facility use agreements and contractual agreements
- Collaborates with the Department of Brand, Marketing and Communications to develop promotional and marketing strategies to promote our aquatic center programming
- Collaborates with facilities to schedule and develop a plan to fund short term repairs, preventative maintenance, and long-term repairs.
- Ensures that all assigned personnel are properly instructed and trained in emergency procedures, safe working conditions, and procedures. Recruits, trains, and schedules staff for all areas of the program, including lifeguards, swim instructors, adult exercise instructors and front desk clerks.
- Instructs and monitors tasks of personnel
- Promotes diversity in staffing, curriculum, programs and services. Supervises staff, including recruitment, selection, orientation, scheduling, evaluation, discipline, and holding staff accountable. Trains staff, provides for personal and professional development, encourages and motivates employees to enhance individual skills, promotes professional growth, and maximizes staff performance.
- Provides strategic support and input to the design and improvement of the department and related programs and services; carries out strategic initiatives while preparing short- and long-term plans in support of the College mission, vision and goals.
- Manages the day-to-day department budget ensuring spending within the budget allocation; provides input and direction to the budget planning process.
- Actively participates on and/or leads various College committees, meetings, and workgroups.
- Monitors compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, accrediting commissions, licensing requirements, and with administrative regulations, Board policies and collective bargaining agreements as appropriate.
- Promotes innovation and improved services for students, employees, and the community. Utilizes existing department technology to maximize efficiency and advocates for the continuing expansion of technology within fiscal constraints.
- Attends training sessions and participates in professional training opportunities.
- Supports and takes part in College’s diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives
Additional Duties
- May serves as college representative on various statewide, local and college committees and attend events as appropriate.
- Generates innovative ideas for effective resource mobilization which lead to budgetary efficiencies and new external funding resources
- Performs the duties of a certified pool operator as necessary.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Examples of Duties:
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in health, physical education, recreation administration, business administration or related field
- Three (3) years of experience of managing or coordinating an aquatic facility or recreation facility which includes aquatic programming, including experience managing public relations and budgets
- Experience working with diverse backgrounds of the College’s community, students and employees; demonstrated commitment to promoting equity and inclusion.
- Current driver license, insurance, and access to a reliable automobile during work hours for transportation to off-campus sites. Must have at least three (3) years of driving history.
- Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire
- Demonstrated experience as an equity-minded leader that uses influence and authority to build diversity, equity, and inclusionary capacity
- Certified in CPR, AED, and Lifeguarding, or ability to obtain certifications within 30 days of hire
At the College’s discretion, additional qualifying experience may substitute for education, on a year for year basis
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree health, physical education, recreation administration, business administration or related field
- Certified lifeguard instructor
- Aquatic instructor and/or swim coaching experience
- Meet or event management experience

Supplemental Information:
Working Conditions
Works assigned schedule, and exhibits regular and predictable attendance. Work may be performed in an office and recreation facility. As necessary to meet workload demands, works outside of typical schedule including evening/weekend hours. Work may require travel to off-campus locations.
Salary
Initial salary placement will be based on years of relevant full-time equivalent experience at the sole discretion of the College, per the guidelines in the applicable Handbook or Collective Bargaining Agreement. Hired employees will not have an opportunity to update past experience or appeal initial placement after the time of hire.
