BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Hartwick College women’s water polo alumna Lara Dendy Young ’15 was a recent guest on The Grinders Table with Uwem Uwemakpan series and The Context Pod with to discuss her passion for nature conversation and wildlife.
The co-founder of Conservio, a platform dedicated to making travel to nature accessible and impactful, she discusses her experience in water polo and how it has shaped her work ethic and teamwork skills. Lara talks about the journey of founding Conservio with her business partner, Justin, during the challenging times of COVID-19.
A native of Cape Town, South Africa, she competed for Hartwick from 2012-to-2015.
A 2015 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Honorable Mention All-Conference selection and Hartwick’s nominee following her senior year for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Woman of the Year award, she compiled 98 goals, 70 assists and 108 steals over the span of 125 games competing for the Hawks as the team compiled a 98-59 record with four 20-win seasons (2012: 28-13, Sixth at CWPA Championship; 2023: 29-13, Fourth at CWPA Championship; 2014: 21-14, Fourth at CWPA Championship; 2015: 20-19, Third at CWPA Championship).
A 2015 graduate of Hartwick with a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) in Business Administration, Management and Operations. she started her career in tourism as an International Sales Executive for Classic Portfolio – the leading collection of eco-sensitive camps, private game reserves, luxury hotels, secluded beach retreats and renowned wine estates in Southern and East Africa.
A 2021 graduate of the African Leadership Institute (ALI) with a Master of Business Administration, Dendy Young was recognized as one of eight Women in Conservation Leaders on the African continent to be selected and awarded a full scholarship to be part of a specialized world-first Africa MBA program with a focus in a Conservation Leaders Program designed for emerging leaders in sectors that impact/depend on wildlife and natural landscapes.
