BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Former University of Michigan athlete Abby Andrews scored with 3:03 left in the second quarter to stake Australia to a 4-1 lead as the Stingers struck down Indiana University alumnae Jessica Gaudreault, Shae (Fournier) La Roche and Canada, 10-7, in Group A action at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

Andrews – who shot one-for-six in the game by converting on one-of-four action shots and zero-for-two man-up chances in 26 minutes – chipped in a pair of steals and three rebounds in the game as Australia improves to 3-0 in Group A following prior defeats of the Netherlands (15-14 W, July 31) and the People’s Republic of China (7-5 W, July 27).

In three games, Andrews now has five goals-on-16 shots with five steals, a field block and three rebounds.

Across the tank, La Roche shot zero-for-three with missed action, man-up and counter attack shots in 21:45 of water time.  She added a rebound and a steal to Canada’s efforts as she increased her Olympic statistics to one-of-10 shooting with a field block, a steal and four rebounds.

Gaudreault turned aside 10-of-20 shots she faced (five-for-eight action shots/four-for-five man-up/zero-for-five penalty shots/one-for-two counter attack shots) in 30:27 of competition with a pair of steals to raise her 2024 Olympic totals to 25 saves on 54 shots with five steals following a 12-7 loss to Hungary (July 29) and a 12-7 defeat of China (July 31).

Both teams will conclude Group A action on Sunday, August 4, as Australia faces Hungary and Canada tangles with the Netherlands.
