ERIE, Pa. — Looking to take strides forward under head coach Blair MacDougall, the Mercyhurst University men’s water polo team enters a new conference in the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) and looks to make their presence known among their new set of foes in what promises to be an exciting year for the Lakers in the water.

The Lakers get their season started off in Annapolis, Md., at the United States Naval Academy with George Washington University on the road on September 7 with John Hopkins University of follow on the same day before rounding out their weekend with Occidental College on September 8.  Mercyhurst then heads to Cassville, West Virginia, for another weekend tournament hosted by Salem University.  The team will face Johns Hopkins and the University of Toronto on September 14 before bouts versus Salem and Mount St. Mary’s University the next day.

Mercyhurst plays at home for the first time on September 21 with four games across two days inside the Hallman Aquatic Center.  The Lakers meet Washington & Jefferson College and Wheaton College on on September 21 prior to taking on Connecticut College and Penn State Behrend a day later. The team then rounds out the month of September on the 28-29 with two games in New York against Fordham University and Navy followed by a trip to Lewisburg, Pa. to tangle with Bucknell University.

After a couple of weeks off, the Lakers return to action in Emmittsburg, Md. on October 12 as they face off against host Mount St. Mary’s with George Washington University to follow. The team then faces Johns Hopkins and Bucknell on October 13 to close out the weekend.

The final seven games of October are played over the course of eight days on the road with the Lakers seeing Navy and Wagner on the 19th before taking on Long Island University and Brown University on the 20th. Mercyhurst returns home to take on Gannon University, McKendree University and Salem University on October 26-27 to close out the month.

Mercyhurst currently has three games scheduled for the month of November with matchups versus Penn State Behrend (November 2), Wagner (November 8) and Fordham (November 9) to conclude the regular season and establish the team’s standing for the MAWPC Championship on November 22-24 at Navy in Annapolis, Md.
