GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Pacific Coast Division Champion/No. 2-ranked California Polytechnic State University received scoring from 13 athletes as the Mustangs ran away with a 20-5 victory over New England Division Champion/No. 14 Boston University, 20-5, in the Third Place game of the 2024 Men’s National Collegiate Club Championship hosted by the University of Florida.
Competing in the Ann Marie Rogers Swimming & Diving Pool at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center, the Mustangs outscored the Terriers in every quarter by racking up 7-1, 3-1, 6-0 and 4-3 advantages in the first, second, third and fourth frames, respectively, to overwhelm the first-time Men’s National Collegiate Club Championship participant Terriers
The all-time leader in National Collegiate Club Championships with five (1999, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2007) in eight title game appearances (1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2022), Cal Poly adds another Top Three finish to the program’s list of achievements. In addition to the Mustangs’ National Championships, the squad has also finished Second (2003, 2008), Third (2000, 2017, 2018, 2024) and Fifth (2006) at the Men’s National Collegiate Club Championship since 2000 to maintain a level of consist excellence from season-to-season.
Liam Egan (Gr., Shingle Springs, Calif.) and Justin Kam (So., San Diego, Calif.) combined for Boston University’s offensive output in the game, while netminder Parker Frost (Sr., San Diego, Calif.) stopped a pair of shots.
Jackson Geiger (Fr., Aliso Viejo, Calif.) led the way for Cal Poly on offense with three goals. Diego Barraclough (Jr., Simi Valley, Calif.), Ryan Bousfield (Jr., Granite Bay, Calif.), Colin Parker (So., Walnut Creek, Calif.), Noah Corral (So., Pasadena, Calif.) and Jack Sweet (Gr., Thousand Oaks, Calif.) stuffed in pairs of scores with Finn Riddell (Fr., Sacramento, Calif.), Ethan Armbruster (Sr., San Jose, Calif.), Aidan Seed (Sr., Woodside, Calif.), Eros Brunel (So., Marseille, France), Owen Taylor (Jr., Menlo Park, Calif.), Jake Anderson (Jr., Redwood City, Calif.) and Tristan Linder (Sr., San Ynez, Calif.) accounting for solo markers.
Prior to exiting the cage for the field, Linder made three saves in the first quarter to stand as the winning goalie of record. Hayden Finley (Fr., Dana Point, Calif.) took the team home with single saves in the second and third quarters.
