Penn State Behrend-vs.-Wheaton College Scoresheet (2025 Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III Championship – Game #7)

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — Hope Edwards (Fr., Bloomfield, Mich./Seaholm) and Makenzie Rickerd (So., Rockford, Mich./Rockford) both scored four times as Penn State Behrend overwhelmed Wheaton College, 21-2, on the second day of the 2025 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Championship hosted by Augustana College.

The Lions never trailed as Penn State Behrend outscored the Lyons 6-0, 5-2, 2-0 and 8-0 in the first, second, third and fourth quarters, respectively, to roll to the win and earn a meeting with Connecticut College at 5:30 p.m. Central later today with a berth in the Fifth Place game at stake. 

In the history of the championship, the Lions (5-13, 4-4 CWPA Division III) have previously posted fourth (2016), fifth (2018), seventh (2013, 2015, 2017, 2024), eighth (2010, 2014, 2019, 2022) and ninth (2011, 2012, 2023) place marks at the CWPA Division III Championship.

Wheaton (0-12, 0-8 CWPA Division III) will return to the water at 4:00 p.m. Central later today to take on Grove City College with a spot in the Seventh Place game in play.  A loss will conclude the Lyons’ season with a ninth place finish in the final championship tournament standings – equaling the squads 2024 finish during the team’s inaugural varsity at the CWPA Division III Championship.

Sophia Romo (So., Jupiter, Fla./William T. Dwyer) and Ryanna Ritting (Fr., Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) accounted for the Lyons’ pair of goals.  Issabel Babikova (Jr., South Portland, Maine/South Portland) was credited with assists on both tallies, while goalkeeper Fiona Swift (Fr., Red Hill, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) turned aside a pair of shots.

For Penn State Behrend, Edwards (four goals), Rickerd (four goals-three assists), Baileigh Marino (Fr., Erie, Pa./Girard) (three goals-three assists), Lauren True (So., Denton, Texas/Guyer) (two goals-two assists), Susie Carrillo (Jr., Fresno, Calif./Clovis North Educational Center) (two goals-six assists), Nic Darrell (Sr., Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) (two goals), Priscilla Gil (Fr., Chicago, Ill./Riverside Brookfield) (two goals), Calla Williams (So., Longwood, Fla./Lyman) (one goal-two assists), Mikaela Hernandez (Fr., Ontario, Calif./Chaffey) (one goal) accounted for most of the Lions’ offense. Goalkeeper Monica Villasenor (So., San Gabriel, Calif./Pasadena) dished out an assist and made nine saves to earn the win.
