PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Brown University split two games by falling to No. 8-ranked Princeton University, 9-8, in Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) action before defeating Connecticut College, 18-9, to close out the day.
The Bears staged a comeback but fell just short in the first game of the day against Princeton. Ilias Stothart and Cole Atwell each led the Bears with two goals.
Brown took an early 1-0 lead on a goal by Stothart but Princeton scored the next three. Stothart added another goal later in the first quarter but Brown trailed 4-2 after one.
Filip Aleksic, Connor Enright and Atwell all scored in the second quarter for Brown but the Bears could not dent Princeton’s lead and the Bears trailed 7-5 at halftime.
Both Brown and Princeton mustered just one goal in the third quarter with Atwell scoring Brown’s goal. In the fourth quarter, Brown cut the lead to one on a goal by Matt Simko. After Princeton scored to make it 9-7, Gabe Chang scored with just under two minutes left but Brown could not come up with the tying goal.
In the nightcap, Daniel Kristich scored six goals and Stothart tallied three as Brown doubled up Connecticut, 18-9.
