BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Logan Schofield, a two-time Honorable Mention All-America selection at Bucknell University, earned an invitation to the USA Water Polo Senior National Team training camp and practices ahead of international competition this summer including the FINA World Championships and FINA World League Super Final.
The USA Men’s National Team is back in the pool this week for training after practices in January and February. In the coming weeks they will blend invited newcomers with returning athletes as European club schedules come to a finish including participants from the Tokyo Olympic Games.
In June, the Team USA roster for the FINA World Championships, taking place in Budapest, Hungary on June 20-July 3, will be announced. In addition, a roster for the FINA World League Super Final scheduled for July will also be announced following the training camps.
Schofield, who signed a professional contract with Serbian club VK Partizan in November 2020, earned First Team All-Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) honors as both a junior and senior to accompany a pair of Honorable Mention All-America citations
He scored 66 goals for the Bison in 2019 during his senior campaign – including three markers with a pair of ejections drawn that led to penalty shots in Bucknell’s 13-12 win over previous unbeaten Harvard University in the first round of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Tournament that year. It marked the Bison’s first NCAA win since 1985 and sent Bucknell into the national quarterfinals. The team finished the season 23-9 with a top-10 national ranking.
Schofield, a native of Maumee, Ohio, finished his career ranked No. 2 in program history with 297 career ejections drawn. After playing a reserve role during his first two seasons, Schofield was one of the nation’s most dominant centers as a junior and senior.
He possesses prior experience in the USA Water Polo system as he earned a spot on the USA Junior National Team during the summer between his freshman and sophomore years at Bucknell. Schofield, who was the only non-Californian on the squad, spent nearly a month in Serbia as Team USA competed at the FINA Junior World Championship.
