CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The Bucknell University women’s water polo team topped Saint Francis University, 10-3, but fell to No. 13-ranked Indiana University, 11-5, to wrap-up the Bison’s competition at Harvard University’s Blodgett Pool during a Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) league weekend.

Colleen Barron and Kali Hyham led the Bison to their third victory over the Red Flash of the season, each netting a hat trick. Emily Konishi added three helpers while Gigi Rojahn notched a pair of goals.

Bucknell raced out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. By halftime, the Bison held an 8-1 advantage, which was more than enough to earn their first CWPA win of 2018 thanks to their stifling defensive play. Manuela Herrera and Hayley Pogue combined to make 10 saves while eight different Bison registered at least one steal.

Bucknell’s number of goals allowed is tied for its lowest total of the season. On March 10, the Bison toppled Sonoma State University, 7-3, at the Aztec Invitational hosted by San Diego State University, giving up only a single goal in the final three quarters.

In 2018, Bucknell outscored Saint Francis by a combined margin of 38-20. The Bison held the Red Flash under 10 goals in all three of their meetings.

The No. 13 Hoosiers were the third top-15 opponent Bucknell faced this weekend. The Bison, who fell to No. 9 University of Michigan and No. 12 Hartwick College on Saturday, April 7, couldn’t overcome a 5-1 advantage Indiana built in the first quarter.

Against the Hoosiers, Konishi (one goal-three assists) and Barron led the attack, while Marta Considine posted team season-best totals in both ejections drawn (six) and steals (four).
