FRESNO, Calif. — Under the direction of the head water polo coach, the assistant water polo coach at California State University-Fresno (Fresno State) will assist in individual athlete and team training, game preparation, academic schedules and performance, equipment management and distribution, camp and clinic planning and execution. Assist with effective recruitment of student–athletes that will contribute to the success of the program athletically, academically, and culturally. Must embody a growth mindset and have the capability to embrace difficult situations, conversations, and experiences with a positive attitude.
Position Summary:
Major Job Duties:
- Daily training
- Assist with planning, engage in understanding of training plan
- Have a responsibility for a specific position group or drill
- Course/deck set-up
- Equipment management and distribution
- Video breakdown, statistics gathering, knowledge of Hudl and Sportscode
- Quarterly newsletter production, distribution
- Camp and Clinic management
- Serve as primary staff liaison with the Booster Club
- Compliance with all Institutional, Conference, and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) regulations and guidelines
- ARMS database/CARA log management
- Recruitment of quality student-athletes
- Perform all standard duties of a Division I assistant coach
Secondary Job Duties:
- Work with all aspects of the water polo program
- Opening pool deck, ensuring student-athlete access to the facility
- Positive working relationships with support staff and athletic department
- Cultivation of relationships with the surrounding Valley community
- Involvement with local club
- Social Media presence
- Assist with academic success by monitoring study hall, class attendance
- Coordinate with Director of Events and Director of Facilities with any water polo related event (internal or external) conducted on campus (Set-up, tear down, schedule, etc.)
- Be an active learner and contributor
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of NCAA rules
- History of success as a coach/student-athlete
- Intent to become a better coach
- Ability to:
- Ask questions for clarification in order to ensure the correct message/information is reaching the student-athletes
- Develop and maintain positive and professional relationships with student-athletes, administrators, support staff, and community groups
- Work effectively with individuals from a diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds while projecting a professional approach and attitude
- Work well in high pressure, high stakes situations
- Ability and willingness to support the diversity and equity commitments of the department
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and project a professional attitude
- A history of regular attendance and positive performance evaluations.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- One year of collegiate coaching experience preferred; equivalent high level club, high school, or national team coaching experience may be substituted
- Note: The successful candidate must be immediately eligible to obtain a State of California driver’s license within 60 days of accepting the job offer and must be able to comply with all university requirements pertaining to driving on state business. A background check of the candidates driving record will be required.
