The CWPA Division III-East Region champion, Grove City (9-8) fell behind in the opening two minutes of the game by a 2-0 count and could never recover against CWPA Division III-West Division Fourth Place finisher Carthage (4-13).  The Wolverines trailed 2-1, 4-2 and 7-3 at the conclusion of the first, second and third quarters, respectively, before chipping one goal off its final margin of defeat via a 3-2 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter.

Abby Spicher (Sr., Erie, Pa./McDowell) and Elizabeth Andrews (Jr., Newberg, Ore./Newberg (Veritas Academy)) keyed Grove City with pairs of goals.  Tessa Leatherwood (So., Hurst, Texas/Colleyville Covenant) and Elaine Miller (Fr., Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) both put away single markers to account for the remainder of the Wolverines’ offense.

Alexa Dunn (So., Girard, Pa./Girard) took the loss between the pipes for Grove City with four saves.

The result sets Grove City and Carthage on divergent paths in the tournament.

Grove City will return to the pool on Saturday, April 13, at 3:30 p.m. against the victor of a consolation game between Penn State Behrend and Washington & Jefferson College.  A victory by Grove City will place the Wolverines in the Fifth Place game at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 14, while a loss drops the squad into the Seventh Place game at 9:00 a.m.
