*The United States Air Force Academy claims the No. 3 seed due to a 9-7 win over Colorado State University; ^Since the University of Utah “B” split with the Colorado School of Mines as Utah “B” claimed a 9-8 win and Colorado Mines took a 10-9 victory, the goal differential in their meetings is equal. Per league rules the tie is broken by goal differentials versus opponents that are seeded higher. Since Utah “B” did not compete against the University of Utah “A”, Colorado Mines’ two games versus Utah “A” (23-5 L, 19-1 L) are not considered. Colorado Mines played Colorado State twice (17-5 L, 18-1 L), so the differential against Colorado State (35-6) is averaged to -14.5. Colorado Mines also lost to the University of Colorado (16-0 L) and Air Force (14-9 L) for a total goal differential of 35.5 (14.5+21). Utah “B” played twice against Colorado (14-1 L, 18-2 L/14.5 average), Air Force (14-2 L, 12-3 L/10.5 average) and Colorado State (16-2 L, 11-3 L/11.0 average) for a combined goal differential of -36. Due to this, Colorado Mines claims the No. 5 seed by 0.5 goals.
