BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Former Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) standouts Bronwen Knox (Hartwick College), Jessica Gaudreault (Indiana University), Shae Fournier (Indiana University) and Ashleigh Johnson (Princeton University) along with current University of Michigan athlete Maddy Steere (Jr., Pascoe Vale, Australia/St. Catherine’s School) wrapped up the 2019 FINA Women’s Water Polo World League Super Final in Budpast, Hungary, on Saturday, June 9.
Johnson had arguably the biggest role of the day among the quintet as she anchored the United States in cage to a 10-9 victory over Italy in the title game. Courtesy the victory, Team USA clinches a berth to the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
Russia downed the Netherlands 10-7 to claim Third Place in the event, while Steere put away a tally and Knox as held off the scoreboard as Australia stymied Hungary, 12-7, in the Fifth Place game.
In the Seventh Place game, Fournier and Gaudreault helped Canada top China, 13-10.
