BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Defending National Champion Stanford University remains the top-ranked team in the nation as the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the 2018 Women’s Varsity Week 4/February 7 National Top 25, Division III Top 10, CWPA Top 10 and CWPA Division III Top Five Polls.

Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (Division III), the University of Michigan (CWPA Top 10) and Macalester College (CWPA Division III Top Five) also retain top-billing in their respective rankings

Voted on by a panel of coaches from the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), the Golden Coast Conference, the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the Big West Conference, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and the CWPA based on the cumulative results of the season, the polls are compiled and released on Wednesday during the season through the week following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.

2018 Women’s Varsity National Top 25 (Week 4)

Stanford University, which captured the 2017 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship, remains the top-ranked team in the Week 4/February 7 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Women’s Varsity National Top 25 Poll.

The Cardinal (100 points) become a unanimous top selection this week, while No. 2 the University of California (94 points) acquires company in the runner-up spot from the University of Southern California (94 points).

The University of California-Los Angeles (89 points) remains at No. 4 with the University of Hawaii (84 points) and Arizona State University (80 points) exchanging the No. 5 and 6 slots.

The University of California-Irvine (74 points), University of the Pacific (73 points) and the University of Michigan (69 points) stay at No. 8-9, while the University of California-Davis (62 points) breaks into the Top 10 in the final slot.

Long Beach State University (58 points) and Indiana University (57 points) rate at No. 11 and 12, the University of California-Santa Barbara (48 points) and Wagner College (48 points) are tied at No. 13 and the duo of Hartwick College (40 points) and the University of California-San Diego (40 points) stand tied at No. 15.

San Jose State University (37 points) and San Diego State University (34 points) hold down the No. 17 and 18 slots, Loyola Marymount University (28 points) and Harvard University (28 points) are tied at No. 19, Fresno State University (17 points) and Princeton University (17 points) are tied at No. 21, California State University-Northridge (12 points) rates at No. 23 with California Baptist University (6 points) and Marist College (6 points) equals at No. 24.

2018 Women’s Varsity Division III Top 10 (Week 4)

Pomona-Pitzer Colleges remains the uncontested top team in Division III as the Sagehens once again rank at No. 1 in the Week 4/February 7 Women’s Varsity Division III Top 10 Poll.

The Sagehens (100 points), who previously garnered 99 points in the Preseason voting prior to becoming a unanimous top selection, are followed by Whittier College (92 points), California Lutheran University (91 points), Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (80 points), Chapman University (79 points) and the University of La Verne (75 points) as the Top Six remain unchanged.

The University of Redlands (70 points) acquires sole possession of the No. 7 spot, while Occidental College (43 points),  Macalester College (38 points) and Washington & Jefferson College (33 points) round out the Top 10.

Two-time defending Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Champion the University of Michigan remains the top pick in the Week 4/February 7 Women’s Varsity CWPA Top 10 Poll.

Michigan (98 points) and Indiana University (94 points) stay at No. 1 and 2, while Hartwick College (93 points) takes sole possession of the No. 3 spot. 

Harvard University (84 points), Princeton University (80 points), Bucknell University (74 points), Brown University (72 points), George Washington University (64 points), Saint Francis University (61 points) and Macalester College (33 points) once again wrap up the Top 10.

2018 Women’s Varsity Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III Top 10 (Week 4)

Macalester College, which captured the 2017 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Championship at home, remains at No. 1 in the Week 4/February 7 CWPA Division III Top Five Poll.

Macalester (97 points), which joined Grove City College (2010-2012) and Connecticut College (2013-2016) as the sole teams to ever claim the CWPA Division III league crown, sees its lead increase from four to six points over Carthage College (91 points).

Connecticut (89 points), five-time (2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016) league runner-up Washington & Jefferson College (74 points) and Penn State Behrend (49 points) complete the Top Five.
