2021 Men’s Collegiate Club Rocky Mountain Division Schedule

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the 2021 Men’s Collegiate Club Rocky Mountain Division schedule.

Comprised of Colorado School of Mines, Colorado State University, the University of Colorado “A”, the University of Colorado “B”, the University of Denver, the University of Utah and the University of Wyoming, the Rocky Mountain Division will contest its 14th season as part of the CWPA.

In the history of the division, Utah (2007, 2009, 2012, 2018, 2019), Colorado (2008, 2010, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017) and Arizona State University (2011, 2013) have previously won the group’s title.  The 2020 season was not contested due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

2021 will be a unique season as the teams voted to coordinate a schedule where programs played opponents of similar ability more often to avoid lopsided contests. In addition, the division voted to use a weighted system, where victories against teams that finished higher in the 2019 final standings were worth more than those against teams at the bottom of the standings.

Regular season competition begins on Saturday-Sunday, October 9-10, at the Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center in Thornton, Colo., with 13 games.  A game pitting the University of Colorado “A” versus Colorado State University remains to be scheduled, while the second regular season tournament of 14 games occurs on Saturday-Sunday, October 23-24, at George J. Meyers Pool in Arvada, Colo.

The top finishing team at the Rocky Mountain Championship on Saturday-Sunday, October 30-31 at the Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center earns an automatic berth to the 2021 Men’s National Collegiate Club Championship slated to be hosted by the University of Alabama at the Huntsville Aquatic Center in Huntsville, Ala., on Friday-Sunday, November 12-14.  In addition, the team which finishes in the middle of the Rocky Mountain Division earns the opportunity to compete in the newly established National Invitational on Friday-Sunday, December 3-5, at a site to be determined against teams that claimed the top spot in the lower half of their divisions.
