BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Following a 12-9 defeat of previously No. 1 the University of California-Los Angeles, Stanford University takes over the top spot in the nation as the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the 2022 Week 6/March 2 Women’s Varsity National Top 25, Division III Top 10, CWPA Top Five and CWPA Division III Top Five Polls.
Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, the University of Michigan and Austin College continue as the top-ranked teams in the Division III Top 10, CWPA Top Five and CWPA Division III Top Five Polls.
Voted on by a panel of coaches from the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), the Golden Coast Conference, the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the Big West Conference, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and the CWPA based on the cumulative results of the season, the polls are compiled and released on Wednesday during the season.
2022 Women’s Varsity National Top 25 (Week 6)
The previously top-ranked team in the nation falls this week as Stanford University dislodges the University of California-Los Angeles to take over at No. 1 in the Week 6/March 2 National Top 25 Poll.
The Cardinal (99 points) climb to No. 1 thanks to victories versus the University of Southern California (16-10 W) and UCLA (12-9 W) over the weekend at the University of California-Irvine‘s Barbara Kalbus Invitational. Stanford, which moves up from No. 4 last week, is followed by UCLA (94 points), USC (92 points) and the University of California (91 points) as the formerly No. 1, 2 and 3 programs back up to No. 2, 3 and 4, respectively, this week.
The University of Hawaii (84 points) is the first team to retain its previous ranking as the Rainbow Wahine remain at No. 5. UC-Irvine (80 points) jumps the University of Michigan (76 points) to take over at No. 5 and drop the Wolverines back to No. 6 courtesy a 10-9 defeat of the Maize & Blue over the weekend at home during the Kalbus Invitational.
Fresno State University (72 points) stays at No. 8, while Long Beach State University (67 points) rises four places to claim the No. 9 position on the strength of wins versus Arizona State University (9-7 W) and the University of California-Davis (7-5 W points).
Arizona State (61 points) and UC-Davis (61 points) slip into a tie at No. 10 with San Jose State University (57 points) staying at No. 12.
The University of California-San Diego (49 points) and Indiana University (48 points) slide and ascend to No. 13 and 14, respectively, with Wagner College (46 points), the University of California-Santa Barbara (38 points) and University of the Pacific (35 points) backing up to No. 15-to-17.
Loyola Marymount University (32 points) retains billing at No. 18 with Princeton University (24 points) edging out Harvard University (23 points) to assume the berth at No. 19.
Harvard slips to No. 20 with San Diego State University (22 points), Long Island University (14 points), Brown University (12 points), Marist College (10 points) and California State University-Northridge (8 points) completing the Top 25.

Pomona-Pitzer (100 points) remains a unanimous No. 1 pick with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (94 points) and California Lutheran University (91 points) trading the No. 2 and 3 positions.
Whittier College (83 points) hangs on at No. 4, while Austin College (79 points) charges up to No. 5 on the strength of an 18-13 defeat of previously No. 5 Chapman University.
The University of La Verne (72 points) stays at No. 6 with Chapman (71 points) sliding to No. 7.
Augustana College (65 points), the University of Redlands (52 points) and Occidental College (34 points) complete the Top 10.

2021 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III champion Austin College remains the top-ranked program in the 2022 CWPA Division III Week 6/March 2 Top Five Poll.
The Kangaroos (100 points) continue as a unanimous No. 1 pick following a 2021 season in which Austin downed Wittenberg University to claim the program’s inaugural league championship.
Changes do not occur in the Top Five this week as Augustana College (94 points), Wittenberg (90 points), Macalester College (85 points) and Grove City College (65 points) continue at No. 2-to-5.
